I've been doing a lot of research on rotated setups on the market. It looks like nearly all of them except the old-style Perrin with the rotated turbo silicone hose have NO provision to recirc the air from the BPV (making it effectively a BOV).

After speaking with them, P&L and Ultimate Racing both run their kits venting to atmo and Crawford, as was previously mentioned, runs their kits with no BPV/BOV whatsoever.

So, what the hell is the right way to do this? I can only assume that if I want my car to run right under all conditions I am going to have to customize almost any rotated kit to allow for recirc.

sorry to take so long, but i mean stock as in subaru ecu. including reflash. im not sure if a piggyback like the utec changes this characteristic. standalones may be different, im not sure. i can only personally vouch for my 02 wrx. but i have a feeling that all of our cars operate like this. iirc, the reason srt-4's exhaust burbles and pops on decel is that the ecu is programmed from the factory to keep injecting fuel on deceleration. some of that fuel goes into the exhaust unburned and ignites.

Just wanted to add to this nice discussion lol, I was in a group buy for the Go Fast Bits WRX Hybrid Blow off Valve. I have installed it using full atmospheric and there is no issues at all. I have a greddy 3" TIC cat-back, perrin catless up-pipe, perrin light crank pulley so far. I really recommend this BOV for anyone. No drivability issues at all and no popping/backfire. Also noticed that the turbo spools fast when shifting and the car has more pull.

After reviewing this thread, I have decided it's a good idea to remove my BOV and reinstall the OEM BPV. (Don't care for the pssssssst sound and don't want it running rich). Do I need to flash the ecu after switching back to the BPV?
Thanks!

same thing happened to me on my stage two wagon, no fire balls or drivability issues when running 80/10 (atmos/recirc) it runs great!

running rich for .001 of a second maybe uses .0000001 of a gallon, its like saying your slanted driveway reduces mileage more than a flat one, its such a small amount who cares? We drive 300hp cars whos counting mileage, go buy a prius

Every time the blow-off valve actuates, the ECU dumps excess fuel into your engine. While the effect this has on your overall mileage may be trivial, to say that it isn't a waste is foolish.

Ok i know the blow off question has been around for a while but i would like to speak for the younger crowd. There is no other sound that i have found to make women quiver and want to go for a ride in your car. I feel that this is a double edged sword. Leave use young fella's alone. Your all old and married which in turn have noone to impress.

Reasons to Influence The younger crowd.
1, Makes you old folks look better
why? These punks slow their car down to get "some" leaving morons thinking they can beat the real subaru's w/big turbo's as you old folks can accomodate the resourses to purchase them.
2, Economy.
Why? I dont need to explain. You old folks know about that.
3, Once us young folks realize that bov is not the mod for us you can buy them at an exceptionally low cost due to you old folks needing them for a better reason than getting "some".
4, When has a young folk like me ever listened to my elders.
When? We are in what the media calls the "hip hop" era and we are all punks.

So what does this say about us young folks and why you shouldnt harass young'yyinzz.

I'm not sure quite yet but i have reason to believe that i would rather see kids putting blow off valves on their cars than smoking CRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave the youth alone and stop picking on them.

So if your turbo is running at over 20psi then you can upgrade to an aftermarket blow off valve without running rich? I don't see how that would be because the whole reason that the aftermarket bov causes the engine to run rich is because it vents the pressurized air to the atmosphere after the mass air flow sensor. Yet if it vented the air before the mass air flow sensor than there would be no problem because the maf sensor would adjust accordingly to the vented air. So basically, this whole thing can be solved by just locating the blow off valve before the maf sensor. I don't know if thats right its just what I came up with after thinking about it for a while. What do you think unabomber?

By the way you should include in the faq that running rich can dilute the engine oil in the crankcase and wash away the oil on the cylinder walls causing more friction and wear on the parts in the engine block. That is the biggest and costliest effect of running rich

That assumption is incorrect.

I'm not assuming it I'm just saying that if you go beyond 20psi then you have to go aftermarket which could mean that you will be forced to run rich unless my theory is correct.

Then you misread it. He's talking about how the stock BPV will start to leak at higher boost levels. Many aftermarket valves hold more.

Oh, but you still can't go with an aftermarket bov because that would cause you to run rich. Is my theory correct by the way?

Yessir. If it vented before the MAF this would not be a problem.

Unless you need to due to high boost, it's a HUGE waste of money.

it's prone to leaking, even at low boost levels so i would stay away from it. the HKS racing type 2 BOV is much better but substantially pricier too
