My setup is about 75% finished. Everything is installed, only thing left is installing the amp, getting the JDM trim panel, and fixing the charging.

I'm using a 2.4A car charger, and it won't charge using GPS. It is the right angle micro usb I'm using because if I leave the trim off and use the cable that came with the nexus it will charge fine.
It sounds like the cable you have isn't able to carry the full 2.4A required to effectively charge the tablet. Most micro-USB cables are only designed for cell phones which require ~1A. You'll need a tablet specific right angle USB cord.

I'm pretty sure RadioShack sells one but I can't find it on their website.

That's what I assumed. I didn't know if any specific cable was recommended.

For an item like this it might be better to shell out a few more bucks and get something that will work correctly. I'd take a trip to your local RadioShack and see what they have. It's been a minute since I worked there, but I remember them having numerous different cellphone/tablet chargers and lots of adapters.

Thanks. Radioshack is generally pretty good about returns as well if it doesn't work. I'll have to try it out. I have no problem spending money on a good cable, just finding out what that good cable is has been the issue.

30 days on most items with original receipt and all original packaging. If you return something that's missing a part, the store gets in trouble for accepting the return when it gets sent back.

They might've changed it since 2013 but when I worked there, the policy was the above PLUS 90 days for any RadioShack brand items that are/become defective. I bought an Auvio (R/S brand) bluetooth speaker that retails for $150 but the battery died 62 days in. Returned it with no problem because I had the original receipt and it was a RadioShack brand.

Whose this directed to? I can draw up a diagram if you'd like to see how I did it.

This is how I did it. Basically the 3.5mm of the nexus, plugs into a headphone amp (for easy volume control). Then that gets converted to an RCA cable, which is then split and plugged into the amp. Let me know if this is what your looking for.

If you have a two channel amp then you just don't include my RCA splitters. I also forgot to say that I have an RCA ground loop isolator in there as well.

you don't explain how you hooked up your amp and anything else for that matter. can you explain with pictures please.

I would reccomend against using the above. Keep it simple and just buy a new bluetooth capable amplifier. You will have ZERO wires to run for audio, only for power.
Running via Bluetooth will achieve much better sound than a 3.5mm cable would provide plus you will lose the complexity and unwanted noise floor that added components bring.

There are several amps that run on bluetooth signal these days.

This would still require audio cables run to the speakers, but that isn't a bad idea. However you wouldn't have fine audio control that you'd have with something like a headphone amp. I believe baked in audio control on android is like 12 steps. I'm unsure if rooting would be able to give you more control or not.

Edit:

And even with running a long 3.5mm jack the audio quality is loads better than OEM radio.

Nice write up! Realizing this is an old thread bump, I am attempting to do something similar in my truck. My plan is to utilize an after market single din head unit that supports AOA 2.0 and mount it a couple inches deep inside the double din mount, leaving enough room to slide in a tablet that will sit flush with the trim and still have the appearance of the tablet being the head unit. This setup up would provide better sound quality using usb to output audio to the head unit instead of a bluetooth setup. I would also still be able to utilize steering wheel controls and have the scalability of using the head unit should I choose to.
