it would have been mid morning-ish I don't even remember what color it was. Might have to go that route my self some day when I can save up some extra mod money. Mind sharing what the hitch cost you installed? |

I don't go to South Austin often, but we have family in North Austin. If the Impreza was filled with people, it was probably me.

So why not just take off the rear muffler to save 30lbs and replace it with the hitch? I wonder if the outback or forester oem hitch would fit the impreza...like it does in the wrx. Replaces bumper beam so it saves weight. Now if it would come out of that little fog light cover thing it would be awesome!!

And nobody is going with a euro style hitch? what do they run in Australia? I wouldn't be able to deal with the ground clearance of one of those Curt or whatever style on our cars.
I had a wesfalia (oem product in europe) detachable hitch on a vw. Had virtually zero impact on ground clearance when it was attached. And when you're done pop that thing off! It's amazing. Proper quick search yielded this: http://bbs.scoobynet.com/showpost.ph...7&postcount=10 ok have at it Last edited by kenny doggins; 08-30-2012 at 07:44 PM. |

I am looking for a hitch for my 2012 5-door WRX. The only one I have seen requires cutting the rear fascia. Have any suggestions?

I've been frustrated that Subaru doesn't allow installation of a hitch, even just for use with bike racks, and their "too much weight" argument is silly. As a mechanical engineer, I know that this use will result in absolutely no harm to the vehicle! The other option would be to mount the bikes up top but I'm afraid I will slam them into the top of my garage. Saw the result of that a lot when working as a bicycle mechanic through college. It only takes one second of inattention. |

I'll dig around more, but I would bet the ground clearance is awesome with that setup. And you can detach it when not in use. There are a ton of accessories that fit on tow balls. Bike racks included, I have a Thule rack that fits a towball. |

From what I have read in this thread subarus logic is kinda nutty.
lets see things that weight enough that they could cause problems according to subaru: my impreza comes with 16" rims and I put on 17" rims woops, thats added weight oh no my diffs are done, or i have 18", 19" rims etc, same argument. I just installed new speakers, dynamat my car and put some subs in the back, woops subs weight too much golly gee my diffs are dead again, how dare you dynamat your car didn't you know you could fry the diff and transmission. bike rack: kuat sherpa 20lbs, 2 cannondales 40lbs, 1 hitch 30 lbs total weight 90lbs woops 90lbs on the back end of the car thats too much, ditto for any adolescent, if you transport kids they weight too much and that is going to kill your diff. bike rack on roof = drop in mpg, your car also has to work harder due to air resistance nothing like a huge bike stuck on the roof to make you hate gas going up to $4 or $5 per gallon. bike rack on hitch bikes stay in slipstream of car aka less air resistance so less of an mpg hit so car won't be working as hard Unfortunately subaru isn't unique in their bs warranty threats, every car company and every dealership do nothing but try to find loopholes so that they do not have to honor their warranties even when they know the problem is purely mechanical. Don't let yourself be a victim of warranties, I never had a car that didn't need a fix to rectify problems the manufacturer called "normal" I also know that I couldn't give a hoot about what warranty a or b says if I followed some of the warranty stipulations or manufacturers guidelines for maintenance on my cars they would all be junks. I'll follow their advice as soon as they decide on the definition of what severe service is until then I will stick with common sense and not fall prey to true cost of ownership bs and other PR crap that serves no value. just my 2 cents. |

I didn't actually dynamat my car I am just saying, If i were gonna go ballistic and do a complete audio upgrade I would rip the car apart dynamat the doors and a few odds and ends however by the nonsense logic from subaru customer rep response the weight of speakers, plus sub, plus dynamat, plus amp should work out to what 30lbs or some such number which is the same as a hitch which then in this imaginery world could destroy my car. lets not even mention if I wanted to move my kid to college or move some stuff the weight involved there and how that could also destroy my car. By their logic the only thing that won't destroy the car would probably be air.

Does the XV Crosstrek in the U.S. allow towing? The Canadian site lists a hitch as an accessory for the XV, but there's nothing in the specifications section about towing capacity.

Yes, looks like the US allows the XV to tow and also lists an official hitch bar. Towing capacity is in the specs as 1500lbs.

I just saw they are selling a trailer hitch kit for the 2013 VX. Will this work on our Impreza?

Hitch is about $400. Not sure about install, but I'm sure you could do it yourself. Running wiring, should you decide to do it, would probably be harder than installing the hitch.
http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_...p?partid=22532 jd0101: I would love to see the photos. I'm not sold on that weird circular part that hangs off to the left. What is that for? I do like that it's damn near invisible. |
