Default my evo VI tdo5-18g turbo into wrx install

let the power making begin!! i did all this in one afternoon and it should be done tomorrow. since it's kinda tricky finding a bolt-on ihi turbo to do what i want, i said screw it and used a turbo I KNOW will do exactly what i want it to. and the deltagate will look soooo nice under the hood. i thought about putting on this big turbo, but decided to save it for another project.

Good god that doesnt look like any 18g i've seen on a dsm, its a monster.
Anyhoo, you better open up that wastegate hole in the flange if you want to have any control over boost. The o2 housing im getting for my 16g has a 2" pipe for the wastegate.

Btw where'd you find that turbo, and for how much?

that big turbo is not the one i am putting on my car. it's for a turbo rx7. i just posted a pic so people could see how big is too big. the one i put on is about 25% bigger than the stock turbo.

here's the wrx killa!! it'll outrun and outhandle almost anything on 2 or 4 wheels. when i run the canyons with it, motorcycles have to move over!! keep your eye out for it.

i don't think you understand how tight our canyons are here. i very seldom get into 3rd gear, but still can outrun most bikes. bring on that rc51 and i'll give ya a run through em. imagine the monte carlo rally and tighten the turns a bit and thats what we have here. come on, i ain't scurred!! thanks for the chat up..

Also remember in California you get the slower bikes and cars .

Extremely tight radii turns are not really motorcycle strong points, but depending on how close together they are I would still expect a bike to out accelerate and (especially) out brake you on the straigts, and depending on the bike, I doubt would give up that much to you in corner speed.

Of course, on a bike it's all rider.

I wish we had some more twisties out here

FYI

Also having 4 wheels during cornering versus 2 wheels equals double the contact patch...

Kawasaki ZX9R 125Hp and 410lbs equals 3.28 lbs per hp

Kawasaki ZX6R 105Hp and 380lbs equals 3.62 lbs per hp.

Ron's Mini, 225 Hp and 1100lbs equals 4.89 lbs per hp.

Porsche 911 Turbo 415 Hp and 3400 lbs equals 8.19 lbs per hp.

I'd say that Ron's Mini stands a very good chance of kicking some rice rocket ass. Hehe, Ron, such humility.

1) There is no mini that has 225 HP stock, so you are comparing a bone stock bike to a heavily modded car. At least throw some exhaust/remap mods in for the bikes!

2) Kawasakis are slow and heavy . For example the Honda 954 makes about 135 (Rear wheel hp, not crank) and weighs (dry) at 370 for 2.74 lbs/hp. This is stock now.

3) The arguement about contact patch is frankly null and void when comparing real cars to real bikes. Stock supersport bikes have way way WAY better suspension and WAY better brakes then even most aftermarket systems for cars. In total race format (ie LeMans prototypes or open wheeled cart/F1 racers) then yes, cars lap faster than bikes due to more contact patch and (equally important) downforce. Reference recent motorcyclist suzuki GSX-R1000 vs. Corvette Z06 comparo and old old car and driver (or motor trend, or road and track) Viper vs. Thundercat comparo.

The fact though is that the bone stock $10,000 race replica bike is much closer to a racebike than ANY production car available today (maybe GT2 or GT3 porsche is the exception). It does, however, take a lot more skill to maximize the potential of a bike than a car though, and their are a lot of real shmucks riding motorcycles today who don't know *** they are doing.

Good job!
Does the TD05 oil and water lines plug and play or did you have to fabricate it to fit the WRX lines?

How does the WRX runs, spool-up time and power wise?

I'm planning on going the same route but I'll be using the hybrid t3/t4 turbo instead.

boogerwrx - remember me? im the guy you sold your gauge pod to.

and about his "stock" 225 hp mini, its definately not stock. Take a good look at that engine, most people have never heard of the car that that engine came out of. The car that engine came with still wooped ass and from what i remember its still popular in track racing in Australia

In the super tight stuff, the bikes just fall behind. Having a ton of power in the bike won't really help in the super-twisties - you're better off on a 600. I mean, as long as it stays tight enough my CRX will outrun any bike I've ever come across. I know from experience - I have a bike too and I'm a better rider than driver. Put in a couple of straights and things change obviously.........

the oil and water lines are not plug n play. the oil feed gallery is bigger and the water lines are on opposite sides. the oil drain bolted right on. the up-pipe had to be custom made as did the downpipe. now since the exhaust intake for the turbo is much bigger i can run a much bigger up-pipe. it's now 2 1/4". the downpipe is still 3". the intake for the turbo bolted right up, but i had to make an adaptor piece where it goes into the intercooler pipe. all in all it wasn't near as bad as what i thought. it just isn't an "easy" install since there is some custom fabrication. it should be well worth it though. i didn't like the lag the vf23 had and of course the stock turbo is just too small. so i figured this is about the best one for the car. it comes stock on the evo 5 and 6 and they have the same compression ratio as the wrx and gives over 300 ft lbs of torque at just over 3000rpms. this should be the mother of all midrange turbos, which is what i want. the a/r of the exhaust housing is smaller than the vf23, but slightly bigger than the stock wrx turbo. but the compressor side is way bigger. the wheel has a very weird blade design to it, and from what i have gathered from other mitsubishi guys, this is to help it spool faster, yet have great flow on the top end. i just found out that this same turbo came on the jdm galant vr4 rs version. that car was rated at 280hp and 320 ft lbs of torque stock and with only 14 psi of boost. so i figure about 17psi on the wrx should get things moving quite nicely. i will let ya guys know tomorrow how it runs.

I'm curious...are you saying the mini will out-run and outhandle a Ducatti, Hyabusa (sp?), or even the new R1?

If so, congrats. That kinda power HAS to be addicting as hell.

I rode in it with Ron driving. We went to get some parts for my exhaust. All I can say is its like being in a big kart. It was especially fun when we caught air over a ripple in the rode!

how could you guys leave out the gixxer 1K (gsx-R1000). that bike is no joke and i doubt many cars could hang with it with a good rider. 177 HP and weighing at 375lbs sounds very good to me.
