can you confirm this combination allows the T2 to fold out of the way without hitting the bumper or hatch door?

The hitch folds up fine, leaving plenty of space between the rack and bumper/door. The rear view camera will be slightly obscured, but I got used to it after awhile. The folded rack is just barely high enough to be seen out the rear view mirror.

It took me about 2 hours to install this by myself. In the dark no less. The hardest parts was drilling. I enlarged holes from the bottom since the holes were already pretty big. Lubricating the exhaust bungs (to move the muffler out of the way) is a time saver. Hoisting the hitch mount is tough, but that's what the box (it came in) is for. There isn't much of a finished picture to show, because, well, its hidden! My only real concern is that the thing weights close to 40 pounds. Which is significant because I won't be using it 95% of the time. They really made it super beefy. Like, I could cut out some of the extra steel because I am only using it for a bike hitch. Also, its going to reduce my options for aftermarket exhaust. Anyway, I am looking forward to hauling bikes. Yay! Last edited by Pelco; 02-12-2016 at 12:24 AM. |

2014 Impreza sedan CVT:
I have a couple of questions for the collective. I have read through this thread, and done some looking at Draw-Tite, Curt, and the XV option. 2014 sedan, CVT. (I have not seen much here regarding the sedan.) Anyway, if I fold down the back seat, I am able to get the bike in but I'm afraid that eventually, something will get scratched. I am thinking about the above options, and would welcome opinions on each. This would only ever carry one or maybe two bikes, period.
1. Possible warranty issues with Subaru. Anybody actually had any trouble? 2. Curt: Appears to be the simplest to install, but they suggest you use a strap from the top of the bike rack to the leading edge of the trunk. (Seems kind of stupid to me, but what do I know, and I would rather not do that.) 3. Draw-Tite: Supposedly, you do not need said strap with this hitch, however it requires a little more for the install. 3 bolts per side, dropping the exhaust, and heat shield, and such. (Prices between these two are within a few dollars.) 4. XV factory hitch: Don't even know if it would work, hang down too low, etc. Probably more expensive with nothing to gain over the other two, assuming that it would fit. John |

I have the Draw-Tite 24807. I had to cut one exhaust hanger and put a small bumper between the hitch and muffler to prevent pinging noises when taking tight corners. Otherwise it has been great.
Between that and a Swagman XC2, I can carry two bikes without any straps and have full access to the trunk. |

Thanks. Just pulled the trigger on the Draw-Tite 24888 and the XC 2 which I had been looking at even before you recommended it. E Trailer seems to have very decent prices and at least for the next 15 hours, (until the next carrot), free shipping.
Although I considered just getting a hitch installed someplace, I have concerns about what corners they may cut for time sake. I guess I would rather be picky and know things are done the way I would want. So now I wait...... John |

Just ordered a Curt for mine. I was hesitant because of the 'strap needed' part but come to find out that it's basically lawyer talk to cover them from idiot installations and people not using stabilizer pins, etc.
Pairing it with a Swagman G10 (great discount from AutoAnything and free 2 day shipping) because I wanted to be able to swing it down for loading the hatch or folding it up as much as possible when not in use. |

Torklift ECO Hitch and *NEW* Thule T2 Pro
Just an FYI for those considering the Torklift ECO Hitch. I have this hitch and it is great with my Thule T2 (Classic). However, this hitch will not work with the Thule T2 Pro unless you are willing to either cut a hole into your bumper or add a hitch extension.
Check this link: http://www.rackoutfitters.com/blog/t...ith-20-photos/ The T2 Pro has a sidearm pin to secure the bike carrier to the hitch. On the ECO Hitch the pin hole is behind the bumper and you will not be able to swing the sidearm pin into the pin hole without cutting a path through the bumper. |

In any case, what I'm hoping to do is make the mounting bolts and flat iron fit through the hole without enlarging the hole. I'll have to see how much we're talking, so I will not know until I get the hitch. I'm also considering removing the part where the safety chains would attach. (Just in case I ever had a go round with Subaru about it I figure that could lend toward my argument.) I don't intend to use it for any more than the bike carrier anyway. That would also keep me from temptation. On the occasion I might need more, I have friends that I could hit up for stuff like that. John |

As I mentioned in a previous post, I installed the Draw-Tite 24888. That is what is listed for the '14 Impreza Sedan. I do not know if there has been a revision to an older model or not. The directions are a bit vague, so I'll fill in some blanks for anyone looking to do this. The directions call for removing 5 exhaust hangars. I'm not sure where they find 5. I removed 3. One at either end of the muffler and one just ahead of the rear wheels. I suspended it with some wire. Regarding the heat shield, there are 4 bolts that hold it to the underbody. The two outside ones are on a nut welded to a piece of metal that has been spot welded onto the bottom side of the car. The two that mount on the main frame rail came out ok. One of the others I mentioned finally came out but nearly ripped the spot welds off before it broke loose. Luckily, I was able to straighten it out and not break it off. If your vehicle is anything but new, I would suggest getting up in there a day or two in advance and spraying some penetrating oil on them. (May or may not help, but it sure can't hurt.) I have read of folks doing this install without dropping the muffler. MIGHT be possible, but it would difficult. Just drop the muffler. On the underside of my frame rails, I have 4 holes. The larger hole, toward the front is the one that needs a slot for the carriage bolts and pieces of flat iron that goes up in there. The fourth hole, closest to the back of the car is unused and can remain plugged. You will use the large hole and the two just after it for the hitch. I used a dremel with a cutting wheel to cut two slots beside one another to create the width of the pieces that fit up in there. I then scored the space between the slots and just flexed the piece out with a small pair of pliers. It didn't take much to do this. The heat shield: For that, I used tin snips to open the end toward the front to expose the hole toward the front of the car. Both other holes need drilled. There is a dimple in both spots of the heat shield where you make the holes. For that, I used a step drill, which I had and was recommended by others. That worked great, BTW. Using the fish wires to get the hardware in the frame went easy. Fish to the farthest hole from the one you opened up and work your way to the one you opened last. Another recommendation by others here was to leave the fish wires on the bolts. That also proved to be very good advise! I remounted the heat shield, leaving out the one bolt that would be under the hitch. It is sandwiched between the frame and hitch. Raising the hitch up to the frame is a PITA if you are alone. Trying to get the wires through the holes on the hitch and lift it all up is not an easy task. I was able to use my shop stool and release the seat height thing to raise the hitch up a little at a time until I could start all the bolts. Once they were all started, I removed one at a time and put the washers in place. Tighten everything down and reattach the exhaust. Not counting getting things ready, and putting things away, I suppose I spent about 2.5 hours on the job. I'll try to remember to get some measurements later today for those who want to know. Also note worthy, nothing is rattling against anything, so I'm happy about that. Re: Swagman XC 2. What a wonderful piece to carry bikes. Very east to load and lock down. I am very happy with it and would not hesitate to recommend it. If you don't feel like removing it completely, you can fold the horizontal arms up without a bike on it. All solid and stable, even with a bike on it. John edit: Clearance is 7 inches above the ground and 3.5 inches from the outermost of the rear bumper. (That was using a square on the ground to the back of the car and taking the measurement.) Also of note, the inside bike position works as long at the inside pedal is in the high position. Otherwise it hits the bumper. I also cannot open the trunk lid with a bike on the inside spot. It hits the handlebar. No biggie as the outside spot is the most convenient for single use anyway. For those of you who installed a wiring harness for trailer lights:
If I connect the power wire directly to the battery, should I run the wire external to the car (zip-tied neatly to the underside), or should I bring the wire inside the car and dress it under the carpet/trim pieces? Also, where did you install the adapter box? I assume it's in the spare tire area? For reference, I just ordered the CURT 59146 Converter and Wiring Kit, as recommended earlier in this thread. IMO you should probably wire it inside the car. When it's under the chassis it will be subjected to weathering and may not last as long as if you ran it through the cabin.

It may have taken Draw-Tite some time to realize that the 2012 was a new platform and develop a new hitch for it. Random tip: A hitch hinders the installation of a rear fog light, so if you plan on installing both, do the rear fog first. |

Recently picked up a 13 2.0i Limited. Installed the Curt (I always go with them first) hitch. It is as simple an install as claimed.
I, like Sgold, am debating where to run (if I run it) the power wire for the lights. I am actually a pit peeved that a vehicle, with the quality Subaru is supposed to have, even needs the trailer light adapter to be powered. Kind of hard to believe a normal T-connector would not suffice. Is the stock wiring harness really that anemic? I am actually debating going with a straight, non-powered, T-connector but have not decided yet? |

Anyone with the Torklift have any pictures of safety chains being used with it?
