rgold01- could you please measure the distance from the ground to bottom of the receiver? Just trying to figure out if the rack I am planning to use (kuat sherpa) will scrape when I enter my driveway. Much appreciated!

Has anyone here got information on attaching brake lights to a trailer on this car? I'm not interested in towing anything serious, but I would like the ability to tow a light trailer with bikes or something like a small uhaul trailer with personal belongings. I know the car can handle it (obviously since it's rated for 1200kg in Australia), but I'm not sure about wiring up brake lights and such, which are, obviously, critical.

newbie question
Newbie here. Thanks for this discussion. I'm concerned about the process of enlarging the forward holes to install the Curt hitch in my new '13 Impreza. Does anyone know if this will accelerate rusting when the metal was filed?
And does anyone know if there is much problem with the clearance below the receiver - does it scrape on driveway entrances? |

I really would recommend the Torklift hitch. 1.25" or 2" sizes, completely hidden and tucked away, and no drilling/cutting required to install. It is worth every penny.

Thanks. It looks great and I like the fact the it will be a couple of inches higher than other hitches; I'm just concerned about the installation. Did you have to remove the bumper to install? And is it easy to each under to install the pin or bolt?

Yes, you need to shave some metal to get the parts through the holes, but that's easy, especially with the car lifted a bit. You would need to swap out the round spacers the invisi hitch comes with for some of the square ones shown in that video...I wish I would have seen that video prior to when I installed mine... The directions have you go through the top of the trunk and there is NO way you can cut through it without a step drill. They mention "wire snips" or dremel in the directions...HA! I'd like to see a video of THAT. EDIT: At mniute 2:13 in the video, you'll have to drop the muffler to fit the invisi-hitch. Very simple and you can just use some rope/bunji to support the muffler while installing. Last edited by Blur125; 09-06-2013 at 08:00 PM. |

As far as putting in the pin, I ended up cutting about 2 inches off the black plastic lip that is under the receiver. You can not see it without getting underneath, but it makes a BIG difference when putting the pin in. No problems anymore. |

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00537GKBI/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I used it to tow a 14' fishing boat up to Lake George to camp, towed very well behind the Impreza. Wished I had a few extra HP for some of the mountains, but overall went well. |

Thanks. I have a '13, so I don't know if your '12 is identical -- on the back side of the black plastic piece below the bumper, there is a plastic box directly behind the knockout opening. It must be for mounting the fog light. Is this what you cut away? I can't see how I can get the hitch past this box for installation.

Torklift emailed me the instructions and answered my question. You have to cut away the housing for the fog light.

Luckily, I won't be hitting too many hills, so the power of the 2.0l might be fine for my needs. How is it launching the boat? You dippin the bumper at all? |

If stuff hits the fan, tow it home, remove the hitch, and take it in. Remember, the international 12' Impreza is rated for towing (650kg or 1433lbs unbraked; 1200kg or 2645lbs. Braked). I can't confirm the models are identical to US versions, but there's nothing to say that they're not. If you're only using a hitch carrier of some sort and NOT towing, then I would not concern yourself with the warranty. The transmission and suspension are really the main factors to keep in mind when towing and possible warranty issues. |

It would be used for towing a 14 foot aluminum fishing boat. the weight is not to much and is way under the 1400 lbs.
I will just keep thinking about it and maybe someday get aggravated enough to just install one. |

Can someone elaborate on this disclaimer?
Due to the invisi style of this hitch. All ballmounts/bike rack stingers cannot exceed more than 2-3/8" of an inch from the center of the pinhole to the end of the stinger. Failure to do so will cause ballmount/bike rack stingers to not fit or cause NON WARRANTIED damage to the exhaust system. |

I asked the same question to the company. This is there response.
"Thank you for your interest in the Ecohitch for your Impreza. I have attached 4 photos showing a demonstration of the limitation of the stinger. The Insert (stinger) I have provided for the demonstration is 2.5 inches long from the center pin hole to end. It would hit the exhaust muffler if used in the hitch for your vehicle. The simple solution to this is to trim off 1/8 inch from the end of the insert (stinger). It then would not hit the exhaust system. Many bike rack stringers and inserts have lengths shorter than 2 3/8" inches from pin hole to end so they will work without any trimming. Make sure to measure all of your inserts/stingers ,as we have in the demonstration, to be sure yours will fit. Please also note that I purposely used a stinger that would not work for demonstration purposes to show that it will hit the exhaust if not properly addressed." |

The only way it will damage your exhaust is if you were to ram it into the hitch like Ron Jeremy |
