Default Subaru'ing on the frozen lake

This is a frozen lake here where I live (near Banff, Alberta, Canada) called Ghost Lake. A few friends & myself headed out on the lake as we do every year for some Subaru fun!! Wanted to share with my Nasioc friends!

The snow basically blows relentlessly out here. There's a path / trail where cars travel, but even after 10 mins the snow will blow and drift up in some areas 2 feet deep. It's fun trying to blast through it, but then you get stuck and run down to the bare ice.. hard to get the momentum going again without anything! Our friend with his truck was there, thankfully..

Crazy! And forgive me, I've spent my entire life in the Bay Area and the San Diego area, so I don't know much about snow/ice - but how do you know that it's safe to drive on a frozen body of water??!

We do the same thing here in Québec/Canada but we wait until 12" of ice. Under that.. is not safe. Is not à problem because we got 36" in some area.
