Joostin did you increase the distance between the ball at the bottom and the pivot point(as compared to kartboy or cobb)? If you did you may have interference problems between the shift linkage and the hole in the transmission tunnel.

okay, i measured the distance when the trans. linkage was in 1rst gear which i believe is the closest point to touching the surround plate and tunnel.

was in 1rst gear and was touching the metal surround plate and measured distance of height to place new mounting of center of the bushing housing. at this position i had about 1/8 to 1/4" of space before hitting the tunnel under the metal surround.

so if it does hit the metal surround barely i will be able to trim the surround, like most people with other levers have to usually do anyway.

i believe that my height of the center of the bushing housing is pretty darn close to exact as the kartboy/cobb/etc. (but mine removes the angle of shaft with a straight shaft exactly like the Cobb and imprezars.com lever does)

it looks like my design is pretty darn close to replicating them, but i added a few more features to mine.

i do want to say i am in no way going to produce the lever for anyone but myself people are free to use my design if they want. i in no way want to take away from the market, but just want something else that i made myself.

OK, first of all I still cannot understand why you are trying to invent the wheel. Plenty of kits are already for sale, and some are pretty cheap. Anyways..... I am only saying this because I have already done what you are doing now. Difference is, I have my own machine shop, I am an engineer, and I know that I had to go through 4 versions before I got it right. Why did I do it? Because I had the know how and the resources. If I did not have my own shop, I NEVER would have tried to design and develop my own design. The economics are not there. But by all means... go ahead and try.

I can tell you this, there is a reason why the stock lever has an angle design in. Your design uses a straight single rod, with no angle. You will find that the lever position is virtually unusable for most human beings, not to mention uncomfortable, when there is no angle designed into it. How do I know? Because that how I did mine, at first.

If you want, I would be willing to share with you my working prototypes. And BTW, the distance from the pivot point to the ball/socket center is very specific, and defines the whole short shift motion. Too long, and you cannot get it into the socket because of the linkage interfering. Too short, and you don't get much difference from the stock shifter. I can tell you this because, well, I have prototypes and the first one didn't work because it was too long. Let me know.

well, i guess that means that my "replica" of the cobb/imprezars.com/etc. that many people enjoy very much, that have the straight design are wrong on there choice of shifter?

i dont know, i think i will at least try what many people have and enjoy very much

thank you for your input, and mine should be done next week

thanx,

justin

MAybe I should have also told you that I am 6'2" tall. That is why the "straight" rod design did not work for me, because it places the shift knob too far away from me in my normal seating position. It was a real stretch.
But it might be OK for you.

Just a tip : superimpose your lever draft onto a draft of the stock lever, keeping the bottom pivot point the same. That will tell you right away how much further the knob will be from the stock position.
