The ride is awesome, not to rough. I used yellow stained glass paint, looks cool at night.

I was noticing the back end of the car is different, meaning the tail lights are red, not clear and silver. Is this an 08 or did you mod that? |

Well, just jumping on this thread as part of my research of the OBS as I am looking to buy an '09. I know this is kind of a weird question, but had to ask. Anyone running the Subaru splash/mud guards, how do you think they work?
I can see the point of the RA ones and they seem like they would be effective, but I really like the look of the OEM ones MUCH better - especially in body color to match the car. I was just wondering if they would be worth it as I am putting together a list of items I want on the car when I get it. Also, how are the stock tires in the winter? I saw the one with the Blizzaks on them. I bet that thing will go through anything. I drive a 2003 Crown Vic that I ran the WS-60 on last winter and never had an issue. Just curious how the stock OBS tires are in snow, slush, and ice? Thanks for your time and great looking cars all! (P.S.: Is there another OBS thread somewhere or is this it?) The oem ones won't work as well, but they do look pretty nice. You can get them on subarugenuineparts.com for a reasonable price if the car does not come with it. Feel free to look at what else is available for oem parts that you can install yourself.
Personally I put some $11 autozone mud flaps on my car and I'm very happy with them. |

Agreed ^^
The OEM flaps do a whole lot of nothing. I love my RA UR's and wouldn't put anything else on it. Subaru paint is so bad that I thought the extra protection was worth it. As for the OEM tires, they were fine in NJ winters. I never had any slipping or gripping issues. If I had a garage to store winter rims/ tires I would do it, but I didn't have any problems with just the stockers. |

The RA's use the same mounting points as the stockers except that the rears use an additional "clip" that is supplied with the RA's. These extra clips are made from steel and it is highly recommended that you coat them with undercoating or chip guard or an anti-rust paint (let them dry thouroughly) before installing them.
You exchange the stockers for the RA's. It's either, or, not both. I have the RA's and leave them on all year. Why change them? They are bigger than the stockers and provide more coverage from dirt, stones, sand, gravel, snow, ice, mud, etc. |

Big-E: Thanks the that input. Definitely gives me something to think about.
Question on the RA's: For the new cars they show to offer just the "Basic" and the new Poly ones. What are people choosing for their newer Impreza's? |

I have the Urethane ones. They are extremely flexible even in the dead of winter.

Listen to everyone when they say that subaru paint is horrible. No automatic carwashes! I paid about $140 for the Rally Armor UR flaps. They totally saved my car from tons of salt and grime in the winter. Ohio roads are more salty than snowy! I can post a pic once I get to my other computer.
The only downside to the RA flaps- is that once I moved to LA-I backed over the rear passenger side while parallel parking and it toally ripped off the car. I had it sticking out at the furthest setting. All the hardware is in the wheelwell still attached, I just have some slits in the top of the flap from where the screws pulled through. Not sure how to reattach securely, so im running with 3 flaps now haha. The stock tires are fine for going forward in winter, its coming to a stop that you gotta really worry about! |

I think I got them from subgenparts and paid about $70. Easy as cake with instructions and parts to put them on. Didn't even take the wheels off to do it. Just get yourself an S-style screwdriver and it's a breeze. |

I love my '08 OBS. It's driven only during winter. Best winter car. Period.
Mine is bone stock except for 15" OEM alloys with Bridgestone Blizzaks WS-60. |

Nice looking car! I have to say, the OEM wheels on the OBS are very good looking - in my opinion. One of the things I really like about the car. Can't wait to get the Vic sold so I can move on a deal on one of these!

Thanks! I think they look okay, but I think I'd like to change them. Ultimately, I think I'll be cheap and just leave the stock wheels on.
