So, I understand that putting a rear sway bar on that is too large, such as a 24mm, can make one of the rear inside tires lift off under high limits, but what I'm interested in is, how dangerous is that? I mean, if you are under high limits you would be aware and prepared for oversteer I imagine. I only ask what seems like an obvious question because I have seen hot hatches do it in the past with stock setups. Obviously they were being driven very hard, but still, if they are being set up that way from the factory, how dangerous can it really be?

It might not be dangerous, but how well do you expect to accelerate with a wheel in the air? There comes a point where more isn't better.

I guess that's a good point...I wonder what effect that would have with the AWD on this car. So no one really thinks it might be a fun idea to run a 24mm sway on the back?

As was mentioned, the 24mm rear sway likely lifts the inside rear tire in a corner. Now, with the tire in the air, you have a FWD Impreza.

Not fun.

So we are saying 24 front, 22 rear for max width..? I haven't looked at this in awhile.

I could be wrong, but I believe the only hot hatches that would lift the inside rear wheel when being driven hard do so because they have a solid rear axle. Our Imprezas have an independent rear suspension, which is superior to a solid rear axle, and I have no interest in mimicking a solid rear axle on my Impreza.

I'm not sure anyone has found a larger front sway bar for out cars yet, at least not in the US.

If I could get a larger front, I would probably move to a larger rear, but with all that stiffening something still needs to flex, and really it could be any of the other parts, even the rear subframe/diff carrier. So in second thought because I am not going to track this I am going to leave what I have alone. I honestly don't think the rest of the rear suspension can handle the stiffening that would come from a 24mm bar

JamesWilson bent something tracking his IIRC, anyone remember what?

I can't imagine it would be that weak if the car is a platform for the new wrx...

I'm kinda glad the new WRX isn't being offered in a 5-Door. It means I don't have to give up my Impreza! I'm quite attached to it.

All I want is stiffer springs and the ability to turn off the stability control

I saw something posted yesterday at subaru forester, and their stock subframe doesn't compare to the sti assemblies, I assume our essentially base impreza is the same and not the beefy sti one. The platform might be shared, that doesn't mean they give us an sti frame/assemblies

Seems like that's the one thing folks can't figure out. I know it'd void the warranty, but isn't there anything we can change in the computer to have that toggle actually disable what it should? Everything?

Default 2012 Impreza cylinder and cam cover leaking oil

I have a 2012 Impreza 2.0 with 27k. The oil light kept coming on and as others in this forum have noticed, I thought the sensor was bad. The diagnoses was a leaking right cylinder and leaking cam cover. Anyone else had this issue?

Maybe. I just can't see how tracking the car could do that. I mean for gods sake, these cars are supposed to have rally bred DNA. Launch it over a speedbump or push it really hard on a rallycross track, then yeah, maybe, but on a smooth track, I'm kinda pulling a WTF right now.

I haven't crawled under the back of my car in a while, next time I rotate tires I will take a look at the subframe

I mean, for a daily, the car is solid enough. But unlike my Si, I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable with really "pushing" the car. Even in the Sport trim, it doesn't seem super rugged. But then again, I didn't buy it to go off roading or to track. So I'm not too concerned. lol I just hope this car doesn't fall apart after a year or two. All these scattered issues worry me a little..

The fact that the frame is stiffer than the previous generation, and the fact that basically the same car is the crosstrek, minus the struts, suggests it is in fact somewhat more robust than we give it credit for. I mean, if I Mini can do that without ripping itself apart, I'm going to assume a Subaru can too.

While I don't doubt that, I'm just saying that there has been a couple other issues popping up. A rugged chassis is useless if the rest slowly falls off. haha I love mine so far, just hope they last as long as Subaru's typically do..
