Legacy Granny's 1997 Legacy L Wagon

I decided to make a thread for Granny so you don't need to see an old wagon in all the other threads. When I first got Granny she was beaten up and dirty. Over the last three years I have tried to clean her up as nice as possible on my cheap budget. To save money I have done most of the work myself so here is my progress.

Definitely can't wait to see more from this.
It is still one of my fetishes to have a older LGT wagon and go crazy with it.

I put my stock endlinks and mounts on the STi bar. The parts in my hand is what came off the STi bar.

Difference in size.

Mounted.

I started to size up the rear STi sway bar by replacing the Legacy torsion bars with the STi ones (these fit fine). I checked the length of the Sti sway bar and it also looked like it will fit (I will know for sure later today when I do the rest). For this to work you need STi torsion bars, STi rear sway bar (duh), STi rubber bushings, STi endlinks (these work with the STi torsion bars), and Legacy metal sway bar mounts.

To hang the STi sway bars I had to use the STi rubber bushings with the Legacy metal mounts (STi bushings fit the bar, Legacy mounts fit the car). The STi rubber bushings have a lip so to make them fit the Legacy mounts you need to grind the lips down like so.

From there I could mount ONE side (you will see why I said one in a second) of the sway bar and test fit it with the STi torsion bar.

Now the reason I could only mount one side is the spot where you put the spare tire is in the way. I started to cut at it tonight and I'll finish it today.

Size difference.

Hope this helps. I will update this when I get further along. Not sure how far I will get today with the Superbowl going on.

Made spacers for my sway bar mounts. Hopefully this gives the sway bars enough clearance.

Perhaps I'm missing it, but I don't see any provisions for a turbo oil drain. Also, before you get too far, consider the location of your turbo inlet versus the accessories and SMJ connectors versus the turbo housing.

Oil drain is going in the valve cover which is why they aren't on yet.

Finally got a chance to work on Granny. It's been awhile.

I put on the 2.2t water pump.

I put on and torqued one valve cover.

Tapped into the other valve cover for the turbo's oil drain. I am waiting for a cam bolt to come in before I can torque this valve cover.

I tapped into the heater core lines for the coolant lines.

I cut and grinded the unnecessary pieces on the intake manifold to clean it up a bit.

I will finish cleaning the dirt and grease off, and hopefully paint it tomorrow.

I wanted to take a quick peek at what I had to look forward to so I hung the belt cover on.
