05 LGT snout seal leaking?
Hey guys, we have a customer car in the shop getting his clutch and flywheel replaced and upgraded. This is his 4th clutch (150k miles), so either he can't drive, drives the hell out of it or we have a problem with the input shaft being bent? Want to know if anybody has ever seen or heard of the input shaft seal leaking? The snout is scored and seems to be leaking. We have ruled out the rear main from being the culprit of this leak, it is dry as a bone.
If needed, I can show some pictures to describe this and hopefully someone else has seen this before. Pretty sure the guy doesn't want to replace his entire transmission, if possible. Thanks! -Matt

+1 Tsk3 Snout kit from FredBeans parts. The lgt's are notorious for eating through throw out bearings and snouts. I went with the spec stage 2 clutch, lwfwhl, and tsk3 kit and bearing. If the snout is to far gone you are toast and need to replace the transmission. Do some research on lgt.com probably find all you need.

Edit: Screw it, I Can't load it. Just visit my page, it's the first picture. Here
Hope this shows up. Pc is down and doing all posting and uploading from my phone. After looking at the picture and reading what you said, I'd say it's too scored to continue using then. Last edited by Cleck; 03-21-2013 at 09:45 PM. |

The other question I meant to touch on was the leaking. Has anybody experienced the snout itself leaking? Like I said, we thought it was the rear main, but it was dry. All the gear oil was collected right under the input shaft/snout area. Is that something you guys have seen/experienced?
My guess is that with all the clutch replacements going on, the constant left/right/up/down motion of trying to get the clutch off the pins is what lead to the eventual bending of the input shaft, thus destroying the seal there, slowly over time. Any fixes for that? |

Just thought I'd update this; customer was ahead of us and bought the TSK kit. We installed that with a CM FX200 clutch, OEM TOB and a Subaru one piece flywheel. Hopefully he's able to ride this out longer than 30K miles. Stoll, if anybody ever figures out the leak specifically, I'd be interested to know.
