I don't mind that they can't be rebuilt as I haven't needed to rebuild a turbo on a project I've done in 10+ years. They will likely last many years and kilometers more than I will keep the car for when used in the proper range. I think Mitsubishi, Garret, and IHI are all quality options.

That said, If I could use the other options, I probably would be all over it. The ones you mention are extremely readily available, cost effective and rebuildable. IHIs on the other hand have piss replacement/aftermarket support and they are generally priced too high for new turbos in their range.

The main problem that I have is that this isn't going on a Subaru, and IHI compressors seem to be able to make the highest pressure ratio at the lowest flow compared to any of the maps I've seen by Garrett or Mitsubishi (2.2-2.6 range at low flows). If you can find me something that matches RHF55 for high boost at low flow without hitting the surge line, I would love to see it.

Then why is deadbolt rebuilding IHI turbos?

Quit being difficult. Deadbolt can rebuild a few IHI turbos, but the VF22 for sure is not rebuildable.

Ok, 1st, thanks for changing you comment from stupid to difficult.

Secondly, I was refuting you statement about them not being rebuildable.

3rd, I never said the vf22 was rebuildable. You're twisting two totally different statement to prove your point.

While I agree there is way more support out there for Mitsubishi turbos than there is for IHI you cannot say there aren't any kits available to rebuild IHI turbos. It just isn't true.

As far as me being difficult is concerned, is everyone supposed to lay down and take everything someone says on a forum as fact and not question or argue other people's statements?

I don't know other than my vf37 and vf36. If you seriously want to know, ask deadbolt.

I know the jdm sti had the vf37 on that motor. Other turbos that Subaru has mated to it successfully are the vf36, vf30, and vf34. a 16g would also be a good match for more power and good spool. Of coarse, the bigger you go the more lag. Going the twin scroll or ball bearing turbos minimizes the lag.

I think the TD05-16G (small 16g) outflows the 22 by a bit, but I could be wrong.

Not quite, more like the Small16G. The Big16G is a chunk bigger. And it spools faster

The VF22- NO. The Big16/EVOIII16- yes, but you're not expecting similar performance are you? If so, you will be very disappointed, because the Evo can run 11s on that turbo on pump gas, while only a handful of ninjas have done it with a Subaru.

I'm not entirely sure, that's why I didn't answer. Sorry. Have you tried that fancy search button yet? I bet the answer is there somewhere

Wow, I basically read this whole thread (too much time on my hands). But it was informative nonetheless.

Hi all. Here is an update for the AVO turbo list in post 5...

AVO 500
(55lb/min, Bolt-On)
The AVO550 ball bearing Edge Series turbocharger is the ultimate in high-flow/high-response bolt-on solutions for your WRX or STi 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter. Capable of up to 30psi of boost and able to hit peak boost at 4700rpm on a 2.5-liter, it has all the response and overhead that you can dream of. This our 1/4 mile beast, designed for a blend of high response and devastating power. The absolute best bang for your buck thanks to an enormous research and development program. We would even go so far as suggesting that the Edge range of turbochargers will outperform any other comparable turbo on the market.
Supplied world-wide for street and race applications, you won't find a turbocharger offering better performance.
Purchase $2150

I'm not sure of the cfm conversion or the max power but I'm guessing 550 means 550hp at the crank and 410-440whp.

Note, the pricing has changed and dropped for the full line on their website:
AVO380: $1,799.00
AVO420: $1,850.00
AVO450: $1,950.00
AVO500: $1,970.00
AVO550: $2,150.00

All current turbos are here:
http://www.avoturboworld.com/avoshop...ath=1_22_29_67

And soon there will be twin scroll turbos added to the lineup which will all use the same compressor housings from their other turbos but will have the newly designed twin entry exhaust housings mated to them for twin scroll set-ups. Those are still in production and will be tested shortly before getting released to the public. Stay tuned for the details.
