I want fireballs!!
Ok so I have always wanted to be able to shoot little flames from my exhaust and I can't manage to get it!! So I drive a 05 WRX with a full TBE exhaust no cats,resonators or mufflers. I have a short ram perrin intake and a cobb stage 2 ACN tune on it. I just purchased a Forge BOV and installed it. This BOV can either be set up for recirc or atmospheric. I made sure I disconnected the recirc hose and plugged it so that the BOV is atmospheric. Whenever I step on it and release you can hear the pressure being released but i get no fireballs . I know its not good to be shooting fire but I just want to try it for once. Any ideas?

If you want fireballs, you should try messing with all the fuel trims yourself, and whatever you do, don't let a qualified tuner touch your car, because they won't do it!

I think most people that do "shoot fireballs", its more accidental than on purpose. I could be wrong

Aren't there kits that include a spark plug and all need equipment to do so?

btw... my 300 whp, Automatic 05 forester Turbo pops fire balls. and all im running ia a vf39 with supporting mods, no cats, and a cobb OTS 91oct map.

Try unplugging a coil pack, maybe two. But get it good and warned up first.
Or get an OS tune with anti-lag. |

So I think I might try this. I have a short ram perrin intake the big MAF and its always causing my CEL to come on saying im running lean. Im going to put the stock intake back in and clear codes and see what happens. But honestly comon everyone wants to see their subaru shoot just one little flame.

I'm shocked your car has not piled.
A lean code does not worry you? Especially on a boosted car? Put the stock intake back on, along with a recirculating bpv and leave your car stage 2. Either that or get a tune for that intake. Joel |

u cant just throw a huge intake on and expect it to work. you got a lot of learning to do dude. classic example of someone who can put parts on and thnks the car is faster and then boom its blown!
get a vent to atmosphere bov and it will inject the fuel but release the air. about the easiest way to do so w/o breaking stuff. a spark plug in the exh near the tip will help. |

My experience is this:
Several years ago I had a blow off valve. It had an adjustable spring on it but it always was closed so tightly that letting off light throttle would surge a bit; or it was so loose that it was almost always on the verge of partially open, even at idle. Could never get it exactly right, but this is partly how I got some flames. It was a GFB Stealth FX that you could vary between full VTA and full recirc, and the spring pressure was also continuously adjustable, as I mentioned. I also was running an AccessPort with a Stage 2 off-the-shelf tune. I used to get some flames occasionally. If your BOV spring is setup on the loose side, you might be able to get it to happen. For me it would pop a little if I would hold the throttle at a continuous point for a few seconds, maybe around 4k or 5k, and then let off completely. I know that it would happen on the street when under load, can't remember if it would when I was in neutral. After revving like this a few times consecutively, I could almost predictably produce some flames out of the exhaust. This was also running a 3" type loud-can straight-through turboback with no cats. It was enough to be visible during daytime, I noticed this one day when I let someone else autocross my car. Not like jet afterburners (not several feet or a prolonged flame), but enough to scare someone if they weren't expecting it. As always, be careful, use utmost discretion, be considerate of pedestrians, other cars and neighbors, and I'm sure it's completely 105% illegal. So you are just looking for backfiring on your car? Doesn't that mean there is fuel somehow in your exhuast and is being ignited in there?

Yeah, tell a tuner you want an overly rich tune...or go oldschool style and connect an in cabin switch to a spark plug mounted in the end of your exhaust path.

Ugh....I bet if you had a diesel truck you would tell your tuner to give you a silly rich tune so you could smoke everyone out. I personally wince whenever I get a pop or flame from my car.

i remember back when I had the stock inlet tube back on it had a small tear where it connects to the turbo side and I had constant popping with flames in every single gear. i let let off the gas at 3k in the rpms and all u hear is *POP* and not these little pops but loud ones with flames coming out. it was really fun driving around with that problem for months next to people. after a while the inlet tore more and had to be replaced. i was running a turbosmart dual port at the time. my experience lol
