Default VIR has a new record holder

10/17/2012 – Virginia International Raceway has a new NASA full course record holder, and that record holder says Turn In Concepts on the side of the car.
It also flies banners for:

• 3MI Racing
• AEM
• Deatschwerks
• DXD Racing clutches
• Fragola Fluid Systems
• Guard Transmissions
• Moore-Sport inc
• Pure Tuning
• Race Tuned
• StopTech
• Turbo by Garrett

With a 1:54.2 the TiC race program was able to set a new TTR class record, FTD, and from what can be determined the fastest ever NASA time trial specific lap on the full course ever recorded.

The day could not have been more perfect in terms of weather and temperatures, and the team was ready to see what the car could do after having some chassis issues at Mid-Ohio just a few previous weeks ago.
On the initial setup of the car and in the warm up session the team ran a 1:56.7, a very respectable time, and .5 seconds faster than their UTCC time this year.

During the first session the team recorded a 1:54.7. After a quick tire change, and notes that the chassis problem was still there but greatly reduced the team decided to change tires to another brand to do a back to back tire test.

With no other changes to the chassis the team ripped off a quick 1:54.2 at only 29lbs of boost. Sadly, it was at this time that 4th gear decided it no longer wanted to go racing.

This ended the day early and never answered a season long question – what would happen if the team turned up boost to the full 36lbs? With some changes to make over the winter perhaps the TiC race team can finally answer that for everyone next spring.

TiC would like to thank all of their sponsors and fans for their support during the 2012 racing season, and like everyone to know they will be back with less weight, more power, and more records starting in the spring of 2013.

I've actually been wondering the same thing. I know we had cameras on more important items that we were monitoring during the laps, as we were out there for tire testing and not record making.

I'm sure we'll hear back soon.

No. I'm afraid not. Race budget is WAY overextended this year, and the car (even without the tranny failure) is not ready. Tasks for this winter are:

fix the rear end hop (have good video that I think shows the problem)
lose some weight
refine the aero

If we were to go this year we wouldn't be up to par with what you're doing.

I'm eagerly awaiting your upgrades and fixes for next year. Hopefully you guys can come out to California for an event or two next year so I can drool on your car for a bit...

Yeah, we were really hoping to get out to Buttonwillow this year but this chassis issue has plagued us all year and I'm pretty sure it helped kill 4th gear and we're only running about 2/3 power too...that and the extra weight still in the car.

That rear end hopping is something I haven't seen at the grassroots level. I'm curious to hear what would be causing that, almost sounds like something is flexing that shouldn't due to the greatly increased forces acting on the suspension mounts

Here's a more up to date view.

...and Clint's colorful commentary on the first 1:54.2 second lap, as Tony blew by.

i believe their is a new benchmark now. It has been put down this year by driver Butch Hamlet in his #21 or #211 (one car number dictated by signup), orange, road course latemodel. he runs in the NASA super unlimited class if i am not mistaken. It was late february i believe the 22-24 where he set the time of 1.53.xx (i appologize for not having the exact time).

side note: I was there the day the TiC suby blew fourth and was thoroughly enjoying the show. I was looking forward to seeing you go head to head with Butch due to being so close in times but as i see you are in another class though. If TiC gets back to Vir this year maybe you'll be able to run in the Super Unlimited series and give that class more competition at Vir. Last race lap times were 10-15 seconds slower off of Butch Hamlet's pace in his own class, resulting in the entire field being laped within a 40 minute race race.

I recall butch from UTCC...fast retired NASCAR chassis.

We should be there again for UTCC this year but still 'small engine and small turbo'. We'll at least turn the wick up on it this time and hopefully not blow another gear. We'll be shaking the dust off the car at Road Atlanta with Global Time Attack next month.

And is there dust. the car's been sitting in the shop untouched since last year.

Yeah, Mike Warfield brought that one up too and Top Speed posted a quicker time with Leh Keen behind the wheel. When I was talking with Nathan Cicio at UTCC, he wasn't to certain of Leh's record time, though Nathan drove the weekend of UTCC.

When Mike brought it up last week, I could find a fastest lap of 153.5 from the Top Speed GTR.

Just another goal to hunt down
