What should the size be? Which type of steel and how thick? Any recommendations on a metal shop that would do it?
I looked into this and it looks like you need steel with a Brinell rating of at least 500. You can order some direct from the manufacturer, but it comes in huge plates. From what I have seen it would be easier, and probably not much more expensive to just buy something premade. It will far exceed the quality of anything you have made for the price. This is the one I am looking at getting. Probably with the pelvic target attachments just so I have a few more things to shoot at.

I like the hit zone version. It doesn't really say if it's rated up through magnum calibers. A lot of the retail targets I've seen are meant for handgun hits. However I do know that I can't punch through 309 stainless a half inch thick with the .300 WM at 200 yards with SMKs. In fact I barely scratched it. Problem is a chunk of steel that size cost $900

It's a matter of distance with the larger calibers I think. So long as the round has sufficiently slowed down it should be fine. Heat is what damages the target and higher velocities cause more heat. They are rated to 3000fps I believe. I like the hit zone as well. I'd ask Terry if he was cool with one of these before I bought one tho. Probably get some jackass shooting my target tho.

What weekends do you have available in the next few weeks? I have like 40 168s I want to burn before I head up there. I have some 175s coming this week I hope so maybe not this weekend, but the next I could probably make. Only weekend I know for sure I cannot go is Nov. 10-11th.

Silenced America (local) is talking about a suppressor shoot sometime this winter. I'm assuming some of the DFW lot will want in on that?

Here is my first:

And second firearm purchases:

Got both this past weekend, and just got back from Target Masters to put some rounds through each for some much needed stress relief. That Mosin is a tack driver! And my shoulder is sore.

Even if I bought an American one to balance it out? Those Mosin's are everywhere, that's a lot of raped puppies... If I could have gotten an American rifle that's as much fun to shoot for the same $65, I would have.

Got my Scrapyard Sykco 711 in today. Fits perfectly into the sheath I got for it and already have the handle wraped in paracord. It's sharp, as the cut on my finger can swear by, and will make a great chopper/hunting/camping knife.

The new/used price is so close that you might as well go new for an extra fifty bucks or so and not worry yourself about what a previous owner did with/to it. You can find them all day in stores and online for $500. Keep your eye on Gunbroker. You might be able to get them for less there.

Too bad you're not in the DFW area, because I get both for $430 plus tax from my distributor or with night sights for $500 installed.

Sooo... How do people feel about the .357 SIG?

I've had the weirdest boner for it lately, kind of want to get a Glock in that caliber, potentially a Sig, but I doubt I'd be able to afford that.

I'm not sure if the glock does this, but I have a sig 229 and it shoots a .40 or .357sig only requiring a barrel swap. Ya, it was a bit pricey and with an additional barrel it's even more. I love that gun so it was worth it for me.

I'm now the proud owner of a new (to me) Knight's Armament SR-15 and DBAL. This is one sweet shooting rig even with iron sights. Couple of crappy iphone pics next to my bubba-camo-rattle-can build:
