Default Snow Performance Stg 3 Methanol Kit

The graph above comes from Norman's 2006 Meth Injected STi. This was our first meth injection build using Snow Performance's Latest Stage 3 methanol injection system. This Kit includes:

• 150+ PSI High Volume Pump
• 3 Quart Reservoir
• LCD Screen, Pushbutton Digital Variable 3D Mapping Controller
• Variable Nozzles To Cover a Wide Range of Horsepower
• 10 feet High Pressure Tubing (1200psi burst)
• Flow Control Solenoid
• Dual Nozzle upgrade available
• All Required Hardware Needed For Installation
• Comprehensive Instructions Supplied but Home installation not recommended as dyno tuning is needed promptly after install.

FOR THOSE NEW TO METH:

Much of methanol’s popularity can be attributed to its ability to resist detonation. Having control over detonation allows the vehicle to make more power through added boost or increased timing. Most injection systems use a 50/50 composition of water and alcohol, with miniscule amounts of water-soluble oil to prevent corrosion of the injection system and fuel system. When water is introduced into the combustion chamber, the air-fuel mixture is drastically cooled, resulting in a substantial increase in horsepower and reduction of heat absorption by the cylinder walls. This added cooling effect allows the engine to run at higher rpm and boost levels without overheating.

INSTALLATION

After talking with Logan Hennessy, our lead technician, he described the installation of this kit to be challenging. When you open the box, the installation appears rather simple and straight forward, but once you actually get into the wiring portion of the installation, it's easy to see why professional installation is strongly recommended.

TMIC or FMIC???

Perhaps one of the nicest features about this kit was its size. You can literally mount this kit about anywhere you please. How stealthy you want to get is all up to you.

When installing the injection nozzle on Norman's 2006 STI, we simply drilled and tapped the intercooler pipe before the throttle body. On the 04WRX that we fitted with meth injection, the customer wanted to take a more stealth approach. To do so, a small hole was drilled and tapped on the lower portion of the TMIC's underside, concealing the injection sight almost completely. Black water lines were substituted for the vibrant red lines that were supplied with the kit and a bracket was fabricated and welded into the left rear trunk compartment to hold the larger capacity 2.5 Gallon Tank Snow offers for an additional $50. Directly below the tank sits the adjustable 150PSI Pump we have turned up to 180PSI to accommodate for the length of line.

To maximize efficiency, the stock Sti intercooler spray tank was refitted to hold the methanol. For those who don't have that luxury, Snow provides their customer's with a 3 Quart Reservoir. We recommend upgrading to the JDM Sti Spec C tank, which holds 12L.

Since safety is always a primary concern when dealing with methanol let alone any type of serious modification, we opted to implement Snow's Safe Injection system, which according to Snow, "is designed as an add-on to the Boost Cooler® water/methanol injection system. SafeInjection allows for a safe tune in those instances where no injection is present and an aggressive tune is utilized. This system reduces boost and/or timing anytime injection quantity goes below the set point regardless of the reason (ran out of fluid, clogged line, etc.). This sets your vehicle into a "safe mode" making your tune instantly conservative for the ultimate in safe water/methanol injection".

Norman's car also contains the following modifications:

1. 20G Turbo
2. TBE
3. Tomei Equal Length Exhaust Manifold
4. Modified 3bolt flange Tomei Up-pipe w/ 38MM EWG
5. Intake
6. SamcoTurbo Inlet
7. Perrin FMIC

How much more aggressive was the map once you guys installed the meth kit on the Sti?

How much boost did you raise it?

How much lower did the idc's go down or up?

Thanks

Snow Performance advertises "20%" hp gain for their products. You got <4%... Torque increased <1%. I do like the additional area under the curve from 5k & beyond. No offense intended... but what gives? Sell me on this kit... I wanted one until this review.

Here is the difference between my 93 tune and my 50/50 meth tune. As you can see you pick up alot of power in the midrange all the way to red line. I could of pushed it more but wanted a conservative tune.

you will need to alter the fuel injection rates so the car can run richer, thus allowing the operator to get the full potential from the injection. meth/water injection allows more fuel to be run, so timing can be advanced = more power w/ less potential for knock, so some tuning program and dyno time is necessary. i guess you could hook it up and inject at a low rate and see how it goes, but thats ghetto, not to mention could be very hazardous to the engine.

just call you tuning shop and ask. if you don't have a tuning shop and are thinking about injection... then get a tuner! doing anything like this on your own just speaks for problems
