perrin tmic or turboxs tmic?
Hi, In the future I am looking into buying a tmic for my stage 3 wrx. I was wondering which is better Perrin or turboxsv2? I really couldn't find that much about Perrin's but I know alot about Turboxs from their web site. Can some people tell me what they think of each. Thanks

I had the TXS, it was great. Given that you can now buy one new for less than $800, it's an unbeatable deal. I just sold mine used for $600+shipping. The pressure drop across the core is something like .2psi - truly unbeatable.
As for the Perrin, I don't know what they use for the core, et al. Perrin typically makes pretty good parts, but the Perrin TMIC is more than $1000. The price difference alone makes the TXS the choice, IMO. -Sean |

What info are you looking for? Seriously, given the relative pricing, this is as close to a no brainer as you can get. Even if the Perrin TMIC is better than the TXS, which I doubt, it's not 10% or even 5% better, much less the 50% better it would take for the costs to balance out...

Looks to me like Perrin is using a Spearco core. In fact, their TMIC looks a whole lot like Vishnu's, which does use a Spearco core.

Rather than continuing to bump, why not just tell us what you want to know? Lots of people are running TXS TMICs, not very many are running Perrins. TXS TMICs are great - I had one. I can only assume that Perrin's are good as well, as Perrin is pretty well known for making really nice stuff. There will be negligible performance difference between the two, or between those two and APS, Vishnu, etc. If you are set on a TMIC, go for the one you can get the best price on. Seriously, there won't be a performance difference between two bar & plate core, large-sized TMICs. Perhaps one or two WHP. Both companies seem to give top-notch support. I brought the 04 ECU problem to TXS and they had me a beta (the first kludgy one...) in less than 2 weeks. They had me a "real" beta fix in like 1.5-2 months, and that took real work. I had a Perrin CEL fix that caused me a different CEL, and Jeff Perrin answered my e-mail that day with the reason.
Seriously, just get something - you'll be happy - or tell us more than "bump". Personally, I don't think you can find a Perrin TMIC for under $1000, whereas you can find new TXS TMICs for $750-800. They were $950-$1000 three weeks ago. Hope this helps... -Sean |

Thanks, well it looks like turboxs is the way to go since it is a lot cheaper than perrin.

I would say so - trust me, you'll be happy and with either, the install is cake.
Word of advice: I would either pick up a replacement BOV gasket, or get some rubber/paper gasket material and a sharp xacto knife so you can make a new one. The stock piece sometimes falls apart. You can also use silicone form-a-gasket, but that becomes a real problem to remove or clean off. Also, if you use a GFB BOV, you will have to modify it to work with the TXS TMIC. I used a file and filed it to fit. It worked perfectly, but it was a bit of a PITA. -Sean |
