Default 400 lb-ft on an 08 STI Stage 2!

As most of you know from the previous posts, we have been playing around with the accessport on my 2008 STI. In late December we made it a stage 2 setup with the addition of a Perrin downpipe and a custom twin Magnaflow exhaust. (it has just shy of 3000 miles now)

This weekend I added a Perrin PW-1 Water injection kit (Aquamist).

I am running a 50/50 mix of meth/water.

Before running the meth, I explored the AVCS intake and exhaust variables a bit. With a bit more boost, and a lot more overlap, I was able to eeek out 374 lb-ft of torque on pump 92 octane fuel.

I turned on the WI, using .6 nozzel (which is a small nozzel, so not a huge amount of meth/water). With a bit leaner AFRs, and a bit more timing I was able to get 401 lb-ft of torque and 312 whp.

This really isn't stage 2, but heh, it still runs like one as long as I ignore the tractor sounds from the CPs.

The 08 is growing on me.

Cheers,

Jeff Sponaugle

Very nice. Must be interesting to drive. Time for a slightly larger turbo? Or are you going to see how far you can push the stocker?

Congrats on the tuning. You're getting me all excited and my wife all nervous.

It looks like the new turbo is having a tough time up top or is this similar to VF43 capabilities? It'd be great to see less of a torque drop after 5700; do you think that is possible with the stock turbo?

Indeed, most of the important things are exposed... and of course there are some new things to learn as well.

Whatever is different (the turbo, or the exhaust cam duration), the 08 makes faster torque, but less HP. Even when I pushed the 92 octane tune, the torque comes up fast, but upper end HP seems to be limited.

I heard the new cobb firmware is pretty slick. You can control individual cylinders.

Awesome job Jeff! I can't believe there is nearly a 100 point difference of torque to hp. Very interesting.

Can we expect dyno sheets comparing the AVCS tuning?

thing is we are only talking about 400 ft lbs vs 515. A LOT easier to believe 400. Personally I can believe 515 with a lot of fiddling on that green/meth setup on that dyno. there are a few around the country that consistently give super numbers and that is ok you just have to realize where it is being dynoed.

Importedcars[George], do not let these 'negative' people discourage you. I think most of them have 'LESS' experience with high H/P cars than they say they do.
