Holy crap, what happened to our dollar?!
Currency conversion: $360.00 USD = $455.89 CAD
That hurts. Especially after getting used to $1.10 CDN = $1.00 USD. I guess I should have bought my toys last year. What did you get screwed on lately?

Seriously, this happened a few months ago. Buying stuff in the US doesn't seem as attractive anymore. |

I know exactly when it happened, because most of my US sales profit is based on the exchange rate. Sure, the $360 injectors may have cost me more with exchange, but I'm making about 21% more profit, so it works out for the best.
It just struck me as the first "big" Us purchase I've made since the late summer. Since 06' I've spent a ton of cash in the US, and one gets used to the cheap US dollar. Makes me wonder if it's ever going to be like that again. |

According to Peter Schiff it will be better than that. The US is printing money like it's going out of style right now. Reminds me of the days when Germany was doing the same and people were using wheelbarrows full of money to buy bread. Once investors start realizing that the USD holds no real value they'll start going elsewhere. Not really good for you since you're in the export business but as a consumer it'll be great news.

Me too. Nismo/JECS 720cc. They will be a nice addition to some Meth injection when the time comes. Until then, 21psi on pump gas should be fun. |

Paypal seems like they are charging more now too (to convert CAD to US).
Maybe it's better to pay directly with the CC now? Or use AMEX? What's the best way nowadays for large payments... like 2,000+ |

for large payments, I use a bank transfer. Get the routing details from your vendor, and go to the bank. Iirc, it's about a $30 or so flat fee, on top of the bank's US dollar conversion. Quote:
TV is a universal time waster though. When you only have $100 a month for entertainment, are you going to go to a movie a week, or just watch some American Idol? Most would watch Idol, and that's good for business. Good point, and it's something I'm counting on. While the USD is high, I'll ride the wave, while trying to take on more Canadian customers. That way if it hits the fan, I'll still have orders coming in. Quote:
I feel the same way about my injectors. Sure, the initial investment was higher than I would like, but the smile on my face when I hit full boost should make me forget about the extra 20 or so percent. |

One quickly changes their opinion when you get your hands on that part that you may have paid a little much for, puts a smile on my face every time

The lower the american dollar goes, the more they want to outsource for cheaper labour. for example i am a pipefitter and we supply all the oilfields in alberta and alot in texas. when the dollar was above par we were getting very little business out of the us, when the dollar was around 75 cents they would get us to build everything for them because it's like having 25% - 30% off. which is huge in our industry because we only deal in specialty metals(stainless, tianium, zirconium ect.) and most jobs are worth millions of dollars. this also brings alot of money and work into our country which translates to a better economy. |

I fought for every sale in Canada in the last few years, because like any company with a bottom line, the cableco's knew they could buy from the US for a lot less. In the last 3 months, I've received so many requests for quotes from these companies, that my head is still spinning. Too bad about the price of oil though. My oil sands communication customers aren't calling as often anymore. They used to run complete cable communication systems out to new fields, and/or new barracks for the workers. Now, not so much. It's okay for us, because they were a small part of our business, but not so good for you guys. Good luck. Quote:
crashfx introduced me to 1st wave "pop" Ministry. Now we're talking old skool, with synthesizers, and whiny, emo-like lyrics. Btw, here's a few pics of the last Ministry show at the Commodore back in May. The show wasn't great, but the memories are epic. |

PayPal charges/deducts an extra 2.5% when converting to "cover any fluxuations in exchange rates" To cover-the-spread, essentially.

Good luck. it's a bitch to pay 150 a liter and know it's creating work for you, i hated that. that being said the oil companies are still doing alright but it's canadian oil that's not. which hurts us. A suncor guy laughed as he said, we'd make huge profit if oil was 75 a barell, i wonder what he is saying now. that's whenit was a 150 a barrell |

For those that do business with US companies, you need to hope that Obama doesn't go with the protectionist plan.
