Default my 2005 STI reached 104000+ mile

I've been meaning to post this for quite sometime. My STI reached 100000+ miles. So far the car runs great and had no problem with it whatsoever. Bought the car brand new and NEVER went back to the dealearship after that nor had any engine repairs done at any car shop. I did all the maintainance by myself. I never trusted the dealership or any local shops to do it.

I used to drag race quite a few times when it was still below 30000 miles. after that, its mostly spirit driving and some highway pulls. The fastest I went with the car was 148mph...Today, the car still pulls like a beast to 100+.

Some history with the car:

Car got broken into twice and the ignition console was ripped out but the car thief was unable to drive the the car far enough (maybe beacuse of the auto kill switch installed, maybe?). Insurance took care of it, and it was all fine and dandy.

You guys might hate me for this but...I had been using the same K&N typhoon filter since it was at 18000 miles, just cleaning and washing it occasionally... and never had a problem with it. I promise I will change it sometime this year.

I have yet to change my transmission fluid since I bought the car and its still shifting smoothly. Again, I will also change it sometime this year.

Same clutch.

same rotors

I just recently change the spark plugs a week ago with NGK LFR6aIX-11 (first time)

Brake pads changed twice ( i switched to ceramic brake pads. (less dust).

Bled the brake once.

Rear diff oil changed once at 50000 miles (Valvoline 75w-90 systhetic).

Oil change every 5000 miles with Mobile-1 5w-30 super systhetic.

AC and Alternator belt changed once at 70000 miles (OEM)

That covered up about everything. I will take any type of advice and criticism as I really wanna hold on to this car for as long as it runs. I really love my car and this is the only car that lasted with me this long and I'm hoping that it will keep going for another 100000+ miles more.

Thanks

lol mobil1... you should don the flame suit immediately.

But in all seriousness, congrats on the longevity! It would behoove you to switch to a better oil (Rotella T6 Synthetic 5w-40 or something similar) before you spin a bearing with that Mobil stuff. It has a reputation for ruining Subies.

Double post... drat. Double drat. I'll use it to remind you that the timing belt is due at 105k.

Threads like this really raise my confidence in my STi. I bought it in December with 95k and its a beast. I'm about to do the water pump/timming change. Congrats on your long life with your car!

That's good to hear, I know way too many people that are convinced they won't hold up. I bought my nearly 300whp WRX with 98k miles on it, it's at 119k now and it's been modded since 60k miles or so. Runs like a champ, only had to do timing belt and clutch

If you don't do what NASIOC tells you to do for maintenance, your car will explode and you will die! Either that or nothing bad will happen and your car will run fine.

Always have, always will. Everyone here are very helpful when it comes to maintainance, tuning advice and information.
When there's a problem, Nasioc is always there to the rescue!!!.....and youtube. haha. But in all seriousness, thank you all!

Anyway, Just ordered my New K&N air intake filter replacement, and gates timing belt kit!!! Just waiting for a perfect day to spend time in my garage. I also found that my Walmart sells Rotella T6 5w-40 for $21.95 woohoo!

My 07 just hit 112k. Same clutch, Changed all fluids, plugs, timing belt, pullies, water pump, just regular maintenance really. Been stage 2 for about 20k miles with all grimmspeed gaskets, Invidia turbo back, K&N, EWG and loving it! When my turbo goes I have a VF48 Sitting on the workbench for me. Not an upgrade, but still new.

I would follow Subaru's guidelines on changing fluids, however to go that long on trans and diff fluid is something. Make sure when you do change them to run a magnet through each fluid to look for metal.

Dang. Good job. I burned through my clutch in my 04 at 35K(first ever powerful car and lots of drag racing at the track). Brakes were done a little before that. According to a poster in another thread, you must be a master mechanic because that is the only way these cars will last 100K.

Subaru says 5w30. Mobile 1 has worked for you. Stick with it and continue doing what you do. Up until SOA started selling their own synthetic, all I had in mine was Mobile 1. NO PROBLEMS what-so-ever. If it was going to cause a problem like they are saying, probably would have shown signs by now.

Agree 100%. Don't change what you're doing, except maybe to decrease the length between fluid changes in the diffs/tranny. Glad to hear your car is running strong, post 100K miles.

+1. I've been using the same mobil 1 synthetic oil at 2,500 mile intervals and i'v had no issues. Congrats on the longevity. If mine turns out the same way I still have atleast 8 yrs to go...lol. By that time rust will probably be my #1 issue since I have no garage and live in the maic area.

The plugs with -11 at the end aren't set the right gap. I bought a set on accident and they were all gapped at .040" when they should be .028". Hope you gapped them before installing.

I really want to see you run the transmission fluid through a coffee filter when you finally change it.

Yeah I have to adjust the gap. It wasn't too bad. The wiring gapper came with the spark plug adjuster on it. Definitely worth the money.

Make sure you check and adjust the valves clearance, I just did it on my 04 WRX Wagon with 110K miles.

Mobil 1 is fine if you don't drive the car hard. Once you get into higher rpm and with more heat it begins to shear. Since most people drive their car hard as most people on this forum. Mobil 1 is no bueno.

Or if you live in a hot area like the south....

Rule of thumb, don't buy m1.
