Post What!?... A policy against WRX test driving??

Yup, that pretty much sums up what happened today at:

Fitzgerald Subaru on Rockville Pike next to White Flint Mall.

I never liked those guys anyway, but they're closer. In fact, when I went to buy my RS, I went there first but they were being jerks, so I got it a Tischer.

Anyway, there was a sign on the windshield that said: "There is no test driving of the WRX model line." I even told the sales guy that a competior was allowing them. He didn't seem to care. He also proceded to talk me out of getting a wrx "oh a 2.5rs.... that has plenty of power...no no you don't need one of these"

Yeah.. ok. Anyway, at least i got to see it up close, and the sitting position is alot more like the RS than I had thought...

It seems to be the general attitude to the WRX. Pirouz and I were at Tisher on Saturday and the salesman was real hesitant to let Pirouz take it out for a ride. Finally he gave in when he saw that Pirouz was an RS owner. His whole shpiel (spelling?) was unless you are sure you want to buy, then you cant test drive. How the hell are you suppossed to know if you are interested if you cant even drive the car. I am pretty turned off from the whole car, the looks are not that great in real life and from what I've heard the performance doesn't feel that great. I am waiting to see what happens with the Lancer Evo 7, and maybe then trade in.

Acura was the same way with the Type R the first year it came out. Now, it was in much lower production with only 350 for sale in the US in 97. That dealer is just being stupid. The WRX is a nice car, but there are what 11,000 scheduled for import this year?

Don't ever go back there again.

wow, I had no trouble getting a drive in the WRX. I just went in, told the guy I wanted to look at a WRX, and he handed me a Key and a dealer tag, and asked if he could copy my drivers license. The guy just said "See you in a bit." When I got back, we talked a little, and they are selling them just over invoice, but obviously would have to order them. This was at Paul Brother's in Herndon.

Damn I hope I dont have that experience. I saw a nice WRX wagon in the lot of Heritage Subaru in Owings Mills. I was going to stop by and take a look tonight. Not even thinking of buying one, as I like my OBS and most importantly I cant afford it. But I wanted to take a look anyway.

I test drove one last night. I walked up to the car , a salesman came out and handed me the keys to look inside. HE ASKED ME if I wanted a test drive. I said umm.....SURE!
They treated me great.

Well the problem is everyone wants to drive a car before they spend 24k, however no one wants to buy a WRX that has any mileage on it because they know someone took the car out and ragged it... so what do you do if you are a car dealer?

The guys at Valley were pretty friendly and upfront- "Sure you can sit in it!" "Can I drive one?" "You can drive one as soon as we get one in that isn't sold. I don't want to send folks out test driving a car someone else has already but money down on." Fair enough.

Go to Paul Brothers in Herndon - they have a red wagon that people can drive.
