Yep, it's just you! Haha. Just kidding. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the bumpers on the doors. I thought about getting them myself on my 2011 but decided against it after seeing it in person. The car already has so many lines and bulges to it that come together nicely. I think having these door bumper things just make it too much. It's too..."busy".

Anyway, good luck with the PlastiDip OP. I don't know anything about it personally but from the pics, it looks pretty good and if it holds up well, even better!

This I did my wheels March 4th of this year they still look good and clean easy.

I did three heavy coats on each wheel though so maybe that has something to do with it.

My rims have been plasti dipped for 4 months... and all i drive on is back roads holds up fine. Plus you can peal it off when ever you like and paint them a diffrent color. Nothing wrong with experimenting with stock rims

I'll just go straight off the plasti-dip website.

Quote:
Plasti Dip is a multi-purpose air dry, specialty rubber coating that can be easily applied by spraying, brushing or dipping. Plasti Dip protective coating products resist moisture, acids, abrasion, corrosion, skidding/slipping, and provides a comfortable, controlled grip. It remains flexible, stretchy and will not become brittle or crack in extreme weather conditions; -30°F to 200°F

Auto Body shops and automotive applications include steering wheels, metal studs, mounting brackets, battery trays, magnetic, rubber boots, plastic fender flares, rocker panels, manifold parts, tire irons, clutch and brake levers, speakers, throttle control panels

Basically this stuff was designed to take a good amount of wear and tear. They designed it to help coat the ends of tools and other decently heavy wear items. A friend of mine in our shop did this to his wheels nearly a year ago on his 3 series BMW, not one chip on them and still look great. Preparation is a huge factor in how long something will last. If you're in a hurry and barely sand and don't properly clean, it will peel off easily.

Moral of the story, don't knock it till you try it. People would be surprised if they realize how many spray paints were the same but branded as something special.

I've painted dirt bike rims with this and they easily last 6 months of hard rocky riding(where normal paint only lasts a few weeks).

My wheels are still looking good as new after a week.

One of the points of this thread is to show what your wheels look like plastidipped. So please post those pics to let others know what it looks like.

@Pineapple Devil: Especially those white ones, that sounds awesome.

I did, but I took the wheels off of the car. But I know some people do it with the wheels still on the car. Just make sure that you do a good job masking and it should work just fine. Also, if you get some of the plastidip on the tire, it doesn't really matter, because it's black and it rubs right off.

Did you spray both sides of the wheel? Or did you mask off the back and spray just the outer face that you would see?

But its true the wheels is not going to last long... should have spray painted it gold rather than plastidip... if i were to ever spray paint mine...

But even other spray paint out there is not that good... including rustoleum and other stuff, basically i think anything sprays out from a can will not last...
Because when u drive rocks and crap will hit ur rims and like make wherever the rock touched a different color spot, and what r u going to do about that when it turns ugly...?
I could put some serious money down that not even ONE of you have tried this before. EVERYONE is so quick to jump on the hate bandwagon when it comes to trying something different. Since when did $30 and 4 hours time become "a colossal waste"?!

Take this guy for instance:

He's actually tried it and knows from experience. We need more people like him around these forums and less of the Debbie-downers.

Props for something different!

To mask rims VERY fast as easy. Take a deck of playing cards. Stick 1 card in between the rim and tire, one after another. So basically you have built a 30 second "wall" and you will never have to worry about getting paint/plasti dip on your tires.

Now to address the other issue. DO NOT PAINT YOUR RIMS WHILE THEY ARE ON YOUR CAR-----YOU ARE SPRAYING YOUR BREAKS WHEN YOU DO THIS.

IT IS VERY BAD TO PAINT YOUR BREAKS!!!!

oh and jerk- thanks man, i agree, people who have no experience cannot comment on this because they have no experience

I actually thought about this too. It would be nice to be able to peel off the paint for later. I feel it would work, but be much harder to take off then normally. I have left over plastidip from spraying my centre console, I think I'm gonna do a little experiment on scrap to see if it works first. I'll be sure to keep you updated on this.
