Hybrid builds
Hi I'm new to the board and to the whole Subaru thing. I have a 05 wrx and recently purchased a new Subaru ej257 short block. I want to build into a strong street motor. Something that would be a good autox motor. I'm located near Scranton pa. What's shops on the east coast are reputable. What's recommendations on heads? Cnc? Stock with hybrid pistons? Just go with sti heads? I want to stay with my 05 harrnass ,ecu, throttle body set up. So keep that in mind. Thx

What if I just bought 05 sti heads for the short block. Would they be comparable (with tuning for my 05 wrx ecu. What would be the advantages/disadvantage to doing this over the hybrid setup.

Giving me a link to The engine build forum got me nowhere. I've been snooping around this and other Subaru forums for a few months reading post. And it seems the same for every post. Smart ass remarks and links to nowhere. Especially post by a new members like myself.

So here's a funny idea... if the forums don't seem to work, why not find a reputable shop and ask them for their opinions? They obviously have a lot of experience because they do it for a living, so it'd be easy to get the result you're looking for via that route.

^There is a similar thread, even from the east coast too. Hybrid build questions New hybrid build Here is the best way to search Nasioc The only advice that you will receive in the "Newbie" forum will be to search. Do you know why? Because no one checks this forum besides newbies, mods, and smartasses that tell you to search. The previous member linked you to the built motor forum because that's where this thread and discussion belong. There you will find the people that usually hang out in there and can answer all the technical questions you have. ALSO acting like this Quote:
gets you nowhere. It's the internet, man up and deal with it. Last edited by JSchell1309; 10-09-2012 at 10:58 PM. |

Easy killer.
First, no where in my post was I being a smart ass. And you're right, I don't know much about building a hybrid engine, but I do know enough (and enough people) to point an interested party in the right direction. What kind of answers were you looking for? Because posting a technical question in the general part of the forum usually won't get you very far, there is a reason they split it all up. And if you want a reputable shop, go to your regional forum and ask around (ie ask people from your area). I could recommend you one, but there is a 150% chance it will be from the West coast. So, before you get your panties all in a bunch, try following the advice people have posted here. This is the newbie section, you're not going to get technical responses, you will get responses that point you to more technical places/shops/forums. Now, please tell me that this wasn't a constructive post. |

I've done what you're interested in doing. 3x in my 03 WRX. I used to live in Scranton ages ago but still go back to visit family. I don't know any tuners in that area that specialize in Subaru mods. Only Minoka Subaru and they won't touch a hybrid build. For what you're asking, if you want a built engine that will last check out this machine shop for Subaru specific pricing. It won't be cheap. www.larryspower.com
Also, ask around the regional forums in NASIOC for recommended shops in ypur area. Your build (based on your assumed experience in this area) will require both a removal/reinstalling shop and a machine shop. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16 Last edited by skimobile; 10-10-2012 at 10:19 PM. |

Thx guys. I posted a similair question in the proper spot. Tommy as far as my pants go I think they were in a bunch before I jumped on you. My apologies and thanks for the help
Ski. Not to much going on in this area as far as any Subaru guys, I'm very capable of doing anything on my cars except motor work. I'm not really a engine guy. But I may try to assemble this just for the satisfaction..thx |

I had a hybrid 2.5 with 2 liter heads installed in my 2002 wrx.
I had it done by CAN -JAM [ Canadian Rally team] they also installed a bigger turbo[ i supplied] an a inter cooler [i supplied] The car already had a 3 inch exhaust an polished intake and throttle body- bigger injectors - bigger fuel pump $9200. +tune It is not a wam bam job. To get a proper tune the car was put on an all wheel dyno. What seems like negative comments are some time hard to take but most are designed to help.
