ok... have the ptp blanket. DP wrapped and i put the perrin dp blanket on today.
just left the wrap on and put the blanket over it.

install went fine.
One question.... the blanket rubs the firewall. There was only around 1/4 inch between the dp and the firewall and i had to work the blanket into position.
the blanket touches the firewall...
im thinking that will be ok. May rub the paint off the firewall, but i would think thats it.

any other opinions?

Got any pics? From what it sounds like you will be fine, but it would help out a lot to have pics and to know what year and make of turbo subaru you have

Don't worry about that, it won't even wear paint off. Its just material coming in contact.

HeroCrank, any chance you could take a pic of hot air exiting the side fender vents with the car warm and radiator fans on? Curious to see just how functional those are. Thank you!!!

Take some sample pics and lay out exactly what you want to see.

after driving awhile, the diffrence is amazing. the tmic is cool to the touch after a long drive. the firewall is cool to the touch (i couldnt hardly touch it before). its a big difference.
i dont know if it helps or not, but i do know under my hood is cooler now.

This is the thread that got me thinking about the thermal image: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-exter...rformance.html

I was basically thinking of a side shot of the front half of the car after it was driven hard and while the radiator fans are on - should be able to see if any of those side vents are functional. Thanks!

I see what you are saying, I will poke around the car with the camera. This colder weather will make it easier to see if any heat will be escaping.

I've been seeing a lot of new faces around here with new cars the past few weeks. The thermal questions are starting up again and I encourage you all to research before you buy and ask as many questions as you can. Ill bump the infrared testing threads and please contact me if you have any questions.

I put a PTP Lava blanket on my new dom1.5xtr when I did the install. The one I got was for T3 sized turbo and wasn't the best fit I don't think... Its wedged on such that I really didn't need to use the included wire as its not going anywhere (I still tied one side together though).

Coupled with the GS heatshield my intercooler is MUCH cooler after a drive than without. Not very empirical but the blanket does make a noticeable difference. I get full spool (22lbs) by just shy of 3600RPM on stock UELH and I have to imagine this blanket is helping it happen.
