Shudder/Jerking
I have noticed that in the morning, or after a long days work, that when I go to take off after starting the car up I get this real nasty shudder or jerking movement. The problem seems to go away after the car is warmed up and I have taken off from a dead stop about 3 or 4 times. Is this normal?
Thanks Geof

I get it too, and although i cant say its "normal" quite a few people have had the same clutch stutter (im assuming you have a 5MT trans.)
If you really want to get rid of it for a while, or really quick in the morning, pull the e-brake and then slowly let the clutch out and push on the gas....just ride the clutch like that for about 5-10 seconds and it wont be there (it could come back in a week or 2) |

Got that too. Seems to show up on cold or wet mornings. Generally it's been called "clutch shudder" but I've never seen a definitive answer as to what causes it. I think most people are chalking it up as a natural cold condition of the car and not worrying about it (hopefully an aftermarket clutch will take care of the issue).

Yeah... for some reason mine JUST started to do it, the car's getting pretty "old" now, she just turned 20000km about 3 days ago
Mine started about 2 weeks ago... weird... |

This has been discussed in another thread.
My mechanic (also a Suby owner) and I think we have figured it out. The stock clutch has better bite when it is cold. As it warms it slips more. There is a rubber damper in the center of the flywheel and when the clutch has more bite it makes the flywheel wind up on the damper. Obviously the damper will only wind so far before it releases, this (we believe ) is where the shudder comes from. His shudder got much worse when he switched to a high performance cluch (he has an RS), because it has much more bite. So, if you plan to replace your cluch, you might consider a flywheel as well. |
