Default My Twin Walbro 255 Fuel Pump Set up. Pictures and Info

I was tossing around the idea of either one 310 fuel pump or 2 walbro 255 fuel pumps. With alot of talking and researching i decided to go with two fuel pumps. Its cheaper, flows more, and is something i wanted to see if i could do. I talked with a few supra tuners and they told me how to do it. Basically this is it. I drilled a hold for the fuel feed and welded a tube to a fitting. Then sandwiched the fitting with a special washer, a nut, and some chemical proof silicon. I ran the wires through another hole and used silicon on both sides to seal it. The power Wires are relayed and hardwired to the battery. Each fuel pump is fused with a 20 amp fuse. The relay trigger switch is run off ignition with a switch inline to kill the power if need be. This set up will be pushing an extremely large amount of fuel. I have switch the fuel return line with the fuel feed line. Now the fuel returns to the tank using the larger feed line. The fuel pressure will be increase alot due to the small return line, but i can fine tune it with the fuel pressure regulator. I am sure some of you will have doubts, but i just tested it and it works.

Nice setup. It's not easy, is it?

I did this about 3-4 months ago in a beast of an RS-T... I think your tubing and wiring solution is nicer then mine, but my pump mounting system was nicer.

BTW, where is the fuel level sender?

Also, you might think about drilling a small hole in the return tube in the tank before the syphon pump so that the pressure doesn't get too high. It might be difficult adjusting the pressure with so much backpressure. I used a seperate return line, but then, I ran two completely seperate fuel systems.

The sender was off of it while i was mounting everything and drilling holes. I didnt want to bend it or anthing. I put it on right before i installed the pump.

I thought about doing this a while back.. This is a fairly common practice on GN's. Especialy years back when we could not get $99 drop in walmart pumps On the GN's you would simply Y the pumps together and mount them side by side like you did. The lines where not replaced or if they where a single one was used. I was going to do all of this but then I found the HKS Cosmo pump and kinda decided that would be plenty for me.. The trouble about doing this to most WRX's is that the Fuel pump controller would probably burn out with the load of both pumps. With your direct wiring your pumps will run 100% all the time. With the Denso ECU or Link the voltage is duty is changed so at idle and cruise the pumps run low speed.

nice work man.

Indeed! I would place some rubber around the opening and preferably go w/ a braided line to be extra safe.

Dont worry guys. I took care of it already. The hose on the left is a hose with wires in it and the other blue hose has a hose that will go around the cut.

I had talked to Clark @ Kingpin and he had told me gt35r setups with a single walbro 255lph ran out of steam when reaching the upper limits of 500+ hp range, so they recommended running twin 255 lph walbros to compensate for the needed fuel delivery.

how will you know if one pump fails?

other than the lean afrs, possibly ridiculous egts, and probable knock?

turbo2nr had a very good point about that... if you run one pump, and it stops, then the car shuts down.

two pumps, one fails, the car will probably blow itself up if you're not on top of it.

I am running two pumps also, I don't have a pic right now but mine looks very similar. I mounted the pumps the same way. I used the original ground for the first pump to power the second and then grounded both through the metal lid of the tank with a screw. The T-fitting you have right outside the tank will cause big flow restrictions. I used to -6 lines out of each pump to a -6 to -8 Y fitting about a ft. further down. The setup looks good though, I love the hard lines in tank.
