The hardware from just one side of the Tumble Generator Valve system weighs in at 311 grams. So for the both that comes to 622 grams (1.37 lb) if you just delete the TGV hardware.

Progress occurs in the intake manifold install/swap. Wasn't as bad as I thought to get the manifold off. Took about 90 minutes. But it took HOURS to get off the old gasket residue without scratching up the port mating surface on the heads.

While I wait for epoxy to set up, I looked at the unused cruise control throttle cable cam, the coolant passages and brass fitting on the throttle body. Started at 1063 grams.

Deleted the above, then a port and "polish" removing the lip and shaping the inlet to be more airfoil/less brick,

and ground down a bit of the throttle plate shaft and it's hardware.

Ended up at 930 grams. A savings of 133 grams (0.29 lb).

We inspire each other JD. Now, get that **** installed.

Back on topic: FINALLY got my modified intake installed. Took way longer than I thought.

As you saw above I lightened the throttle body 133 grams

Hardware for the intake/TGV to head 288 grams

Reduced to 208. Saved 79 grams. Meh.

Fuel rails and injectors. 1227 grams.

Reduced to 1141 grams. Saved 86 grams by removing the last of the EVAP system from the fuel rails. Yes I tared out the box.

The intake manifold wiring harness. 1059 grams.

Deleted all TGV, EVAP wires, and PCV detection wires from the harness. I still run the PCV. Reduced to 815 grams. I found an additional 10 grams after the photo. Coppers heavy. I never suspected I'd remove 244 grams from the harness. Additional photo 01, photo 02, and photo 03.

TGV's, hardware, and gaskets: 2590 grams

Intake Manifold: 3404 grams I had to weight the three seperately because it maxed out my scale (>5kg). But altogether the OEM intake/tgv system weighs 5994 grams. Almost 6 kg.

Reduced mine to 4310 grams. Saved 1684 grams. Those are Grimmspeed phenolic spacers epoxied to the bottom.

Installed it all. It runs, well. Nice pickup in acceleration too.

Me looking up torque specs. Altogether removed 2256 grams or 4.97 lb.

Side by side photos of the two intakes: Photo 01, Photo 02, Photo 03, Photo 04, Photo 05.

And yes it is possible to port match the intake ports on the heads with the engine still in the car. Photo 01. Photo 02. Photo 03. Photo 04.

For the whole system or just the under intake/fuel rail portion? What section should it go in? Here? 2.0 engine? Built Motor? Mewbs?

I didn't know that was a concern for EVAP delete. I didn't monitor for mileage loss. Is that just a rumor? Why would you lose mileage? What's the reasoning?

Because evaporated fuel just gets vented to atmosphere instead of being burned.

I've given up weighing every little thing I've taken off my car, because it's hard to do delta-weights (i.e. remove 3lbs of wiring, put in 1lbs of wiring, 2 lbs delta). I'll weigh my car when I'm at a happy plateau.

Current projects include:
Removing carpet and painting floor pan
Another wiring overhaul
Removing fog lights
Removing heater core (pretty much only drive the car in the summer anyway)
Shaving intake manifold
Decomplicating throttle body (that's a trademarked term )

The ECU doesn't lessen the amount of fuel fed to the injectors based on what's coming in from the EVAP charcoal canister. The ECU doesn't even know how much is coming in from the EVAP system. Plus it's only cylinder 1 that gets any of the EVAP fuel vapors. I hypothesize that the car (e.i. cylinder 1) would run slightly richer with the EVAP intact. Delete it and the mileage would stay unchanged according to my hypothesis.

I'm just saying that's the theory, not that I subscribe to it.

I'm going to look in to this. It really did suprise me how much mass was in the sub-harness attached to the intake manifold. I've got wires everywhere that don't connect to anything anymore because of the amount of systems I've removed.

Examples:
Fog Lights
Cruise Control
Daytime Running Lights
EVAP All the way back
TGV on the Main Harness
PCV detection on the Main Harness

Just be careful. A lot of wires are joined mid-harness and you might think you're cutting out either end of the same wire, and accidentally cut power to something else!

I've stripped a couple dozen pounds of wiring and modules out of my car, although I am running a full standalone so it's easier to get rid of stuff.

Epson salt bath FTW!!!

Just to piss off a certain person. Rasmus I have to say you are so motivated when you want to get something done. I am amazed at how meticulous you are with the weight.

Thanks Mike.

Well the J.B. Weld failed.

After only 18 miles the car started idling weird. Searching. Boost would only go up to .2 kPa.

Hooked up Learning View and my A/F Trims were running +14.99 in some of the boxes which means I have an air leak somewhere and the car was running lean off boost.

So hooked up my pressure tester. The white PVC endcap with an air fitting on the end. And ran 1 kPa to the system and started spraying places with soapy water.

Bingo. Leaks all around the TGV bodies and the intake manifold right where I J.B. Welded them together. On the right side; cylinders 1 and 3.

Sadbanana day

I'm off to find a GTAW guy.

Yep.

GMAW(MIG) with a spool gun. Going to pick up a bottle of argon, some scrap aluminum, and a new stainless steel brush tomorrow. It's all coming off tonight and the old back on. I'll practice for a day or two on the scrap then V groove out the mating line betweenthe TGV bodies and the Intake and weld them together.
