Need a helmet for HPDE's and AX
Hey guys,
I am starting to get into AX and want to do a few HPDE's this year. Would like to get a helmet that is pretty light and not to expensive. Something around $300. Any sugestions would be welcome.

I bought my first helmet for drag racing, and I now use it for HPDE events and riding. I spent around 90 bucks for an HJC. With 300 to spend, you have tons of options - go to a bike shop and try a bunch on. IMO, that's way more than you need to spend on a helmet when you're just getting started, but it's your $$.

Bell, Pyrotect, and G Force have offereings in that price range. Ya might as well purchase an SA rated helmet if ya have 300 to spend, plus most HPDE events require them.
I would recommend the Bell M2. Be sure to try on a helmet before purchasing. They all fit differently. http://www.saferacer.com/ http://www.racerwholesale.com/catalog/index.php http://www.ioportracing.com/index.html |

i bought my helmet through g-forces closeouts (forget the website but just search google and it comes up)...if you give it time eventually one of the right size will come along for a good price. i have yet to find anythign wrong with mine but it was 75 off the normal price. The say they're cosmetic blems but if so its a small one.

Make sure you try on a bunch of different helmets and find one that fits your head. Every helmet is going to fit just a little differently, and you certainly want something that is going to be comfortable through out a 25 - 30 minute session at an HPDE.

Nearly all the helmets at a motorcycle shop will be "M"-rated (Motorcycle), not SA. Most HPDE's are going to require an SA-rated helmet.
I have been extremely happy with www.SoloRacer.com. Over the years, we've bought a helmet, 2 race seats, race harnesses, other miscellaneous stuff from Brett. Great guy. |
