With just about 14k on the odometer and 2 years ownership I've started to hear a knocking sound while driving over bumps from the drivers front wheel well. I took the tire off and the strut is leaking.
Should that be a warranty repair?
Will or should they replace both front struts?
Will they stick me with paying for the post repair alignment?

You should NOT pay for anything. Not even an alignment. Chew them out. Chew out the sales manager. Then call SOA and chew out the dealership to them.

You bought a new car for the warranty. Use it.

I agree that you should not need to pay for anything, as long as you have less than 36k miles on the car. But don't chew anybody out yet. Give them a chance to take care of you. Sometimes being nice is all it takes.

If a dealership has the gall to try and charge me for a repair under warranty they're going to get a polite but firm denial. After which I give them what they deserve. Take care of your customers.

JustaImpreza never said that the dealership was trying to charge him for the repair. He was simply asking what to expect.

Thanks for the info guys! They haven't tried to charge me yet, I was just wondering if they might, since I couldn't find suspension parts in the warranty book. And I thought maybe it would be considered a wear item.
Next question is should I go to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle for a warranty repair?
The dealer I purchased from is 30 minutes away and there's a dealership 5 minutes from my house. I would've purchased there but couldn't agree on trade in value. It would be more convenient to go to the closer one.

Been there before about wanting both done on a warranty repair. When my passenger side cam carrier was leaking oil, I asked if they could reseal the driver side too since the engine was out of the car and they told me "no, we can only fix where the leak is."

So they will not replace the other strut.

@DS...They are Helix LED brake lights. Got them off EBay for about $400. Pretty good quality and they are plug and play. They also come in different lens styles. Clear smoked etc.

It's sad you two had to battle it out like that in the old oil consumption thread, and now the new one. Half the reason I go on Nasioc is to read about, and in hopes of attaining new info on my always ongoing oil consumption problem. 2 new shortblocks installed and still burning oil. At least right now it's only half a litre per 5000 or so km. I'm hoping it doesn't get worse, but usually does.
I know you have your own points of view on it, but you don't have to go into an oil consuming thread trying to convince people that have the problem that it's normal, especially if you don't have that problem yourself. I think it's more so for people to go there to discuss the problem who have it (and solutions if ever one arrives) with each other. You don't have to try and convince people in that thread that it's normal when they are experiencing it first hand, which is a really ****ty situation to be in, because as it seems, only a minimal percentage of people have an oil burner. This itself shows its not a normal behaviour of the car if most aren't burning any oil, and a few are.
More should be done by Subaru to take care of this problem properly, because I really love my Subaru, and never considered buying any other car. Now that I've been going through this nonsense with oil burning and shortblock changes, I'm currently out of my warranty, with an ever ongoing problem that doesn't seem to properly get fixed, I don't think I will never buy another Subaru again(if I don't get properly taken care of) because of this. I wanted to be loyal to the brand because they have great cars that meet all my needs, but I don't want to deal with another oil burner again.
Here I was being one of those guys that wanted to get those emblems saying 6th or 7th Subaru, dream car being an STI, but now, first and last Subaru. Sad day...
I know it's the wrong thread for this, but had to get it off my chest.
End of rant. Thank you

For what it's worth, two people I know have 2.0i's aside from me. Both the other ones are 2012's (one base sedan and one Sport limited), and both have had excessive oil consumption. To my knowledge, both have either gotten it fixed through Subaru (no details as to how), or are slated to have it be fixed. Now mine is a 2013 Sport premium, and have never once had the said oil issue. I'm at almost 40k after 2 1/3 years.

For whatever it's worth, it seems like "new" Subaru QC is **** at best, and this FB20 motor is also **** at best.

Hi gregorz,

I think you're misunderstanding the reason for my battle with 79. Trust me when I say that I understand the frustration that you, 79, and others with oil consuming cars must feel. My previous car was a 2010 VW Golf TDI, which was a reliability nightmare. In fact, it's ironic that I was one of the few people on this forum who defended 79's rants, until he verbally attacked me for mentioning my VW frustrations.

My battle with 79 is that he never brings new information to the forum. His goal is to make prospective Subaru buyers nervous about the brand by providing links to web sites where people complain about oil consumption, in an attempt to make it appear to be a widespread, common problem. Then when people like me point out that a few dozen articles about oil consumption is not a statistically significant sample, and that data from sources like Consumer Reports are more valid, he accuses us of being PR trolls who must work for Subaru.

It's a ridiculous accusation, it's misguided, it's boring, and it makes it difficult for people like you to find the valuable information you're looking for. So that's why I stand toe to toe with 79 when he falls into this pattern, and is why I applaud Opie for closing those threads.

Hope this explains my motivations.

Mine is an early batch from 2012 and I have excessive consumption - just got The test results back from the dealer yesterday. A little under a quart in 1200 miles. I'm currently at almost 54k so I'm glad to get it done prior to the warranty. Hopefully it makes a large enough improvement in the oil consumption
