Default What do you do with no autox?

In the autox's off-season, what driving fun is there to do?
I just went karting, and it seems like a pretty good surrogate.
What else is there?

Our region does run some winter events, but I generally just go cold-turkey until April. If my garage wasn't freezing, I could make some progress on my car to-do list.

Portland should have some frozen lakes or snowy parking lots to mess around in!

No entry fees FTW!

Donuts in the school parking lots.

Karting that's about it here. Actually I just end up playing Team Fortress all winter.

Karting has been a nice little reprieve. Going today actually.

I have been doing a lot of research on parts and throwing new stuff on the car.

PS3 has taken a more prominent role and I can finally have a gf without running off every weekend at 7AM.

Right now I am counting down to the first event. I am going out of my mind

First event of the year is this weekend. New England region races once a month. You guys from the south should come up and race in the snow and ice, isn't that what subies are for?

Indoor karting and we're having a few winter events around here. But mainly it's being spent doing all my planning for next season, which is a lot more work when buying a stock car and trying to plan out a full mod/preparation plan for an ST* class with a new to you platform. But oh is it going to be fun!

Of course in the mean time, I'm going crazy with anticipation.

Some of the folks who autox in the area put together a series of 3hr endurance go kart races at an indoor track up in DE. I've been to one, and am going to another this weekend.

It's a stupid amount of fun and is pretty competitive. Last race 1st and 2nd were <20s different after 500 laps.

Other than that my time is spent procrastinating installing the bits I picked up for next season.

Edit:
Oh, and good call on the Left 4 Dead

Play a LOT of Forza, work on maintenance and upgrades on the car, try to save money for the season, wait in anticipation of the results from the first couple tours to so I can rack my brain over what tires to buy, and just recently, start thinking about the LeMons project I just joined up on

While waiting for the lakes to freeze, make yourself some studded tires.

Pocket the travel money, since rallyX/most autoX events are 4hrs away.

Watch TopGear and play GT4 in the meantime. I wish they hadn't closed down our indoor kart track... now its just an office building. Bleh.

Winter rallyX is good if you have them in your area. Generally I find the winter events to be easier on the car than summer events - less bumps as all the ruts are filled in with snow and ice. At the same time there is more sliding and drifting so it's more fun and you can work on your 'skills' at a lower speed.

Also winter navigational rallies are always fun. Being out on new back roads with the knowledge that there are other people out there who can help you in an emergency is always nice.

Do a little indoor Karting. Work on other peoples cars. Got a couple projects like a tranny rebuild I have now followed by a clutch install. Start essembling my new SP engine next week.
Play games like TF2.
I do some fine scale modeling once in a while.
