I really like what you have done so far. I just bought a 2012 impreza and also wanted to put supertones on it. Is it possible to mount the hellas behind the top grill?

Thanks!

Anything is possible. You might have to drill a couple holes or fab some kind of bracket but there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't. For ease of installation, I used existing bolts to mount mine.

Just out of curiosity, you said you wanted to do a wrx engine swap down the line, why not just start off with a Wrx instead?

Keep on modding the car and hopefully there will be a bigger aftermarket support.

The plan is to turbo the car. I won't do it though till the warranty is up. I am actually in the process of planning right now.

That's a great question. I did look at the WRX and Legacy GT and financially it didn't make sense. I wasn't going to settle for anything other then a Subaru so the Impreza make good sense. I have several goals in mind with this car and ultimately I am after the "sleeper" look. There are several exterior mods that I will be doing like roof spoiler, side skirts, front lip and possibly some type of body mods (to remain under wraps for now) as well as suspension work and wheels but I want to preserve the original look of the car. I'd say I am pretty resourceful and since the aftermarket for our cars is poor at best, the purpose of my build is to show that with a little ingenuity and research you can set out to achieve what you want regardless of the aftermarket support. And who knows, maybe the aftermarket will realize that even though are cars don't have turbos, there is still a desire to mod them and consequently develop parts....as in the case with rallisport racing for the UEL headers.

I was wondering how much plasti dip you used to spray your grille? So I can kind of gauge how much to use. I think I'll need three coats to get full coverage.

I think I used 1/2-2/3 of a can. I did at least 4 coats. Make sure the first coat is pretty light and gradually build it up.

I have been lurking on this site and IWSTI for a couple of years readings and learning in hopes of getting an STi. With the cost of gas and potential engine trouble I decided NA was more economically feasible. I went to a few dealerships looking for a 2.5i Legacy but wasn't too keen on the electronic handbrake. So I found myself at Irvine Subaru with Marcelo helping me. That's how the story begins.

As you can imagine, idle hands are the devil's play ground and the urge to mod bit right away. Problem is, there isn't yet a lot available so thinking out of the box is a must.

Link to pictures:
http://s1161.photobucket.com/albums/q507/strunz490/

Mods installed:
Prodrive shift knob. Freebie from the dealer.
Smoked tail lights-turn signal and reverse only with VHT Nightshades
Rear Bumper LED reflectors wired up to brake lights
Plastidipped front grille
Hella Supertones with Blue powder coated grill
Rally pig sticker on drivers side mirror
Full LED swap except for DRL's
Sharkfin Antenna
Custom axleback exhaust
6K HID's

Planned:
Cobb adjustable short shifter
Cobb shifter bushings
Cobb/Perrin shift knob
JPM Coachworks Shift boot and ebrake boot.
LED DRL's
STi front lip
Side skirts
Tein S-Tech springs
Rota G Force 18x9 +35et
Rally Armor Mud flaps
UEL Headers
Project KICS lugnuts
Kartboy pitch stop
GT Spec steering wheel
Grimmspeed license plate delete
Custom LED tail lights
Blacked out headlights
STi brake swap

And lastly a WRX engine swap.

For your exhaust, all you did was take out the muffler and weld those 2 pieces together and bolted it to where the muffler used to be?
If so, can you do that for me as well and I pay for it? I want the boxer growl but I still want to keep my muffler when I have to bring it in to the dealer for any reason so I can easily swap it to stock.

PS- doing a muffler delete, does it effect the hp or mpg?
BTW, I live in NYC.

Got it thanks, I made an offer to the eBay seller you got your HIDs off of. I think it was you who had posted the link. Our 2012 Imprezas take the H11 bulb is that correct? Did you just install the HIDs into the halogen housing or did you get projectors or something to go with them?

Sorry for the late reply....At this time I don't have any plans on fabricating more exhaust setups like this, especially since I have not yet completed design/testing. Maybe down the road I might consider it. In the meantime though I can point you in the right direction as to where you can get the raw materials if you like....

As far as the muffler delete goes, there is no effect on hp or mpg. It's strictly for the sound.

Yes, H11 bulb is correct. I just installed the HID's into the stock housing. Light scatter is minimal. A projector retrofit is something that I am considering after completion of more "important" mods.

Yeah I would definitely like some advise on how you did your exhaust and where I can get the materials.

Scan gauge II going in this weekend and depending on time, I might take the headlights off, bake them and then black them out. I have had several requests for drive by video, so I will try and get that taken care of as well.

Not much of an update but didn't get anything done this weekend. Too much going on, especially being mother's day weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next weekend.

I have a 3 day weekend coming up which should give me ample time to do a few things this weekend. I noticed a rock chip in the plasti-dip on my grill due to too thin of sprayed material. So, I'll be removing the front bumper and grill so that I can fix the small issue. I'll take better pics of the Hella supertone setup for those that are interested. I am also going to do a DRL light mod, and a mod that involves the front, sides and rear of the car. A drive by video will also be taken....finally.

On a side note, I found a vendor that might potentially have an aftermarket CAI and axleback exhaust for our NA cars. I am just waiting to hear back.

Stay tuned.
