anyone retrofit hid's into their impreza?
i've researched and seen so many hid retrofits out there. Anybody know of a local shop that does retrofitting hid's into non-hid impreza's? I'd like to do that am aware that retrofit is better than plug and play since it doesn't glare all over the place.
or does anyone know where i can get a pair of 05 usdm sti hid headlamps? thanks.

thanks for the response. i saw that link already and $625 is too much. i dont even know why it costs that much and it doesnt even inlude the hid kit, just labor and projectors. i dont have time to send my headlights out anyway.
Any chicagoland area shops do this type of work? |

I am getting the s2000 projectors done, the amber lens removed, and the lights painted black. Maybe the halo's too depending on my budget. You can look on the forums to DIY but lightwerkz is unmatched, and HID's dont come cheap I have HID's but want a brighter projector style so its only going to set me back like 1000 for everything. Most is the s2000 projector cost.

Did you email him at lightwerkz and see what he wants to charge you for your upgrades? He will give you a quote.

yeah, well i see a lot of places where they sell hid kits between $150-$300 and an extra $625 to get it retrofitted is kind of a lot. i dont know why its so expensive.
but yeah, id rather have it done locally cuz i cant just not drive my car for 10 days, i dont have that time, i drive everyday to school/work. i was thinking $600-$700 tops for everything including the hid's and on his site its 625 just to retrofit. ill look elsewhere. |

They charge a lot because not a lot of people do this kind of work, and not a lot of people want this done.
I did my retrofit myself, it's not really hard, just tedious. Buying a 2nd set of headlights and doing it to that would be a good idea. |

thanks for all the inputs. if its close to $1k to get this done, i won't do it. I'll live without it. i wanted to know if there was any chicagoland shops that do this as well.

well keep in mind, a good set of projectors will usually cost a couple hundred bucks to begin with (unless you hunt down the parts yourself, I've found that most of the HID retrofitters are willing to pay a premium on projectors to keep them in stock, and of course pass that cost onto the customer).
So figure $200+ some misc. supplies so about $250, another $50-100 on shrouds, $100-150 on ballasts, so about $200-250 in labor... at least you know how most of the costs break down at least. |
