The FA motor sucks a decent amount of oil through the PCV valve. Pull the rubber hose off where it meets the intake manifold and you will see the oil inside the hose and on the nipple of the intake manifold.
FYI, we are making over 400 HP / 400 TQ and revving the motor to 9000 RPM with a fully built motor using forged pistons. The car has over 5000 miles and we have never had to add oil to the motor. We did install an AOS when the car had 100 miles on it though Team Crawford

I just put the 300V 0W-40 in my FXT. The new Ester Core has less anti-wear additives than the old stuff and relies more on the eater base stocks for anti-wear. I'm doing a voa on it soon.
I know there are a few folks over at FT86club using 300V 0W-20 with no consumption. They don't need no steenkin' API certification! -Dennis Last edited by bluesubie; 12-06-2012 at 07:39 AM. |

I did the first one at 1100 miles because it's a new motor and a second at 4500 with castrol gold 5w-30, no issues, no burning and the car feels great.

I switched to the Motul 0w-30 X-Lite and it has worked great so far. I'm at about 5800 miles now, changed it at 1200 and about 4500. No oil consumption.

Didn't really check for consumption before I changed oil...whoops. Switched to Motul 8100 Eco-Lite 0W-20, will report back after 5K miles on it.

It's because the 0-20w is like water that it gets noisy when broken down. Honestly there is zero chance when I get serious into racing this engine that I will be running a 0-20w oil and will likely switch to a 10-30/40 or something of that nature. The 0 weight oils are more efficient and may net a couple HP over a thicker oil but honestly under hard conditions such as racing or when the oil breaks down it's not worth the trade off (especially if boosting the motor). Thanks, Phil Grabow |

11,500 miles on my BRZ. Did the oil change today and it took the entire 6 quarts of Subaru Genuine Oil with a tiny bit of room to fill some more if I wanted to. Does this seem odd to anyone else? According to Rally Sport Direct it's supposed to be 5.8 quarts (according to Subaru) and they barely used 5 quarts.

Is yours a manual transmission? There is a pump at the back rear right of the engine for auto's that is not used on the manuals. The blocking plate in its place is known to leak oil, its an easy fix (they just didn't use enough sealant at the plant. |

This thread kinda makes my head hurt. I don't have a good source local that I have found for Motul or Redline. I am an Amazon whore and Eneos (3230300) API SN/ILSAC GF-5 Certified 0W-20 is available with Prime.
Seemed like few people on 86club liked it, anyone disagree? |

I don't know if anyone has said this or not, but any engine new or old can consume up to 1 quart of oil a month.
