C&O Trattoria (stands for cheese & olive) at the end of Washington by the Venice (?) Pier. My first choice for Italian.
Fab's on Van Nuys Blvd south of Ventura in the San Fernando Valley. |

While the garlic rolls and lines outside would make you think C&O is a great restaurant. I have been less than impressed the 3 times I've been there. There is never any meat in any of the dishes. When I ask for chicken I seem to get shavings and $5.00 added to the bill.
An excellent Italian place in the same area is Pasta Factory on Washington. It is directly across from Islands on Washington one block east of Dolce. I'd give them a try for good food. However, a girl would be all over the "fun" factor of C&O. Scott B. |

Plus, you want lots of meat, go to Buca de Beppos, where the meat is plentiful but the food really sucks... |

two opposite ends of the spectrum:
Valentino - west LA on Pico = simply the best northern italian food in LA huugee wine selection. chop chop service. amazing meat dishes. and pasta just like in milan. but this all comes at a hefty price $$$$ Alejo's - marina del rey on washington and lincoln = great hole in the wall for hot, cheap sicilian italian. big portions with nothing on the menu over 10 bucks. what it lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in flavor and value. there's another location on lincoln on westchester by LAX too. happy eating |

I'll add another to the list, a little more pricey (figure $15-25 per person without wine) - Pane e Vino on Beverly Blvd. (between La Cienega and Fairfax). Pretty good food, great atmosphere. If you want romantic, request the courtyard. If you want an overall phenomenal restaurant (they says it's French/Mediterranean, but I had killer Osso Buco and my girlfriend's dinner had risotto), The Little Door on Third St., just west of Crescent Heights. Expensive ($60-80 per person with wine) and reservations required on the weekend, but that meal was worth every penny. |

Too bad you aren't going to be eating in Santa Barbara. I could rattle off Italian restaurants for days. They are my favorite!

C&O - Thanks you guys!!
Hmm...for some reason I never tried C&O and my girl loves pasta. We'll check it out. Not really a date place, but my buddies and I love Little Toni's on Lankersheim (about a mile east of Universal Studios). They have the best pizza and lasagna I've ever tasted, and it's famous among the porn industry, so when I was single it was quite fun to say the least.
At work we frequent Ciao in Downtown which is very good! As for atmosphere, I would recommend the Anaheim White House, Capo Trastevere Trattoria or Valentino in Santa Monica. Also, Remi's on the promenade has a flavorful smoked goose dish that will just make your girl wet!! -OLMEK |

It's a bit of a hole in the wall but I recommend Spumoni in Sherman Oak's.
Here's the map... http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=...r:regT:4:fbT:0 It's about $10 for your average pasta dish. I like their pesto. And it's actually a nice place too. My gf really likes the place...she thinks it's romantic. A couple of times actually gave us free Tiramisu! I've had Alejo's and C&O also. They're both good. The Spaghetti Carbonara at Alejo's is really good. |

Wow great responses guys. I will have to do my research on each of those places. Didn't know we had that many people on this board who love italian. I dare not start a mexican food thread. Cause I love mexican food more than italian.
