MMA Containment Thread v.2
MODERATOR EDIT:
Previous thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1754503 With all the fans, fanbois and haters going back and forth, and 3 or 4 random UFC 100 threads, I thought this might be a good Idea. Everything from news and rumors, who will be fighting on the UFC #XXX card and of course, old sweaty dudes just lying on top of each other to get their jollies. Come here and get your fill. I will start... Aoki vs. Fedor? More likely than you think... Pictures here - http://www.mmatko.com/fedor-emeliane...m-1-challenge/ http://www.m-1global.com/en/news/det...-down-in-japan Quote:

Just watched the Weidman fight.
Props to Weidman. Spidey sense reaction time on that elbow. Ref should have stopped the fight about three shots earlier than he did. |

I can't say too much yet, but there is a solid chance he will be fighting someone that I train with regularly. |

Side note, Calgary event this weekend is such a meh card I struggle to even want to watch the PPV. But, it is often these cards that end up being some of the most entertaining. So I guess we will see how it goes. |

I know fighter scheduling has a bit to do with it (Belcher just fought Palhares, Belfort got injured, etc.), but even if Lombard beats Boetsch in the first round, I still wouldn't be like, "Title shot!" It's like all the people who suddenly think Nate Marquardt can beat Silva, somehow forgetting they fought before and that fight wasn't even close. People on TV say I should be excited about Baroa vs. Faber. Meh. I'll read about the fights on Sunday. If I missed out, I missed out. |

Boetsch knocked out Oakami (even if he was losing) who was just ranked in the top 5, before his lose to Silva. Your argument is pretty weak. For what it's worth, I think Belcher is probably the most underrated contender at this point. Lombard is a beast but I think if he fought someone who had decent footwork that allowed them to keep distance, he wouldn't hulk smash them. I do believe if Hector touches anyone's chin, they're going down. Weidman probably does represent the biggest challenge to Silva with his wrestling credentials. I pointed it out the other week but the middleweight division is light on wrestlers in general - but also good MMA wrestlers. LW, WW and LHW seems to have gotten them all. It's my opinion that if Sonnen stuck to the game plan, he had that fight won through a slow and grinding decision. |

Yeah he was looking into it with Strike force back then.
Guess it's finally happening. October 6. Looks like he is listed at 6'6" and 290. |

He might be 290 if he put some weight back on. Last pics I saw of him he was looking pretty small. Granted at 6'6 he's still going to be "heavy". I mean it makes sense if he has to make weight at 265.

I just watched the Munoz vs. Weidman fight last night, that was a great elbow.
Do you guys think he can really take on Silva? |

Thanks. Just watched the fight That counter right elbow was amazing. Weidman looked like he did his homework and practiced this. Still amazing he was able to pull it off so well in actual combat.
The finish made me cringe a little on the late stoppage. I can't really hate on the judge though, he was trying to give Munoz a fighting chance. |

someone like him would be afraid of silva from the get go (ie gsp vs Hughes the first time) and that would effect his performance. Also Chael is a very big strong wrestler at 185, I don't see Weidman being able to toss silva around like he did... And he would def not want to just stand and strike with him. He has the potential for sure, but I really don't think he is ready. Munoz to silva is a very big jump IMO |

Considering those options I am not adverse to Weidman getting the shot, but I won't bitch if he has to fight one more guy to get a crack at Silva. I'd really love to see him face Belfort. I think he'd tear Belfort's ass. |
