Default Stge 2 Cobb WRX??

Hello Guys,

Finally am buying my WRX 2007 (11K miles only) end of this week. I was more interested in an STI 2007. I found one with the Garret Turbo GT307 and many extras but I dont like to purchase an over modified car.

Based on your previous experience, how fast is a WRX stage 2 cobb? because I am willing to go for that upgrade first of all with some brembo calipers as well.

Any other ideas? modds for suspension? other things? how about turbo upgrade to VF39? will this affect the car?

Thanks to share your experience.

Grats on the purchase. When you're asking how fast, do you mean 1/4 mile fast? Spend some time checking out the Proven Power Bragging section. I'm sure there are plenty of stage 2 my07 WRX's reporting 'how fast' their cars are.

I got an 07 wrx last year, nice job getting one with such low mileage. I got a catless turbo back exhaust with a Cobb stage 2 and it was an amazing investment. Worth it for sure and it's a huge difference. I just recently did a 16g turbo upgrade to with a pro tune

My 06 WRX is stage 2 with a catted Cobb downpipe, SPT catback and everything else is stock. I think it's a fun street set-up but I've quickly gotten used to it and am looking for a little more power. Worth the money though imo. GL and nice find!

It's real fast for an amature and it's slow for a pro. Silly Question, drive it and decide for yourself..

Before when I was running NA Subies only, I heard of WRXs and espcially Stage 2 WRXs thinking "zomg, so fast!!!111".

Now after owning one at Stage 2 (Cobb intake + turboback + AP), they're quick, don't get me wrong, but it leaves you wanting more power almost. It's kinda of once you start getting used to it.

None the less, the sound is great and the entire car stimulates your senses... noise, power, handing, visuals.

Good description - but you can get used to almost any power level. I personally feel for DD, stage 2 with some suspension mods and good tires makes for the perfect subie experience. Sure there are faster cars or prettier cars, but Stage 2 is pretty good for the level of investment.

I think most would agree with this - Now once you go past Stage 2 there is plenty of fun, but it costs more and might come with less reliability. I feel Stage 2 with suspension mods is the sweet spot.

I love this. Stage two is cool and within most price ranges. Its when you swap in a different turbo the cost gets hefty with all the support it needs. Enjoy it, break something then buy a mini van cus you just got married and can't afford it anymore.

It depends on the tune, a basic stage 2 tune on a wrx can net you anywhere from 210-250whp, and sti's can see upwards of 300whp at stage 2, really depends on many variables tho especially location and the dyno that was used

Depends on the driver, depends on the year of each. Why not visit cobb's website and read about their Stage 2 dyno and be done?

We don't measure "how fast" something is.

the comparison am trying to do is for same year for sure as mentioned in my thread. between a 2007 stock STI and a 2007 WRX cobb stage 2. I wanted also to know if upgrading to VF39 is possible without engine modifications and with the Cobb Stage 2 what would be the Horsepower of the car.

Anyway I will check the Cobb website and if you want to share your knowledge, I would appreciate that. thanks

HP numbers really don't tell you that much. Its the way the car feels, some feel fast, some feel slower. Cobb can give you some numbers, doubt they will mean too much. The butt dyno is a strange thing.

Just knowing the stock for stock difference is nearly 60 hp, that would say a lot. Also searching the website, you would see that a VF39 swap is extremely common and for your year, requires very very little. (You also didn't ask about the swap so no Idea how you expected to learn about it)

I suggest reading the stickied Manifesto (located in Newbies section) and taking it slow, learn everything you can, then go crazy.

that in itself is an "engine modification".

there are SEVERAL supporting mods you need before you just start throwing turbos on willy-nilly like.

I don't know, I had a 450whp saturn and it scared the **** out of me every time I put it down. There really is no reason to be that fast. Keep in mind the car weighed about 2100 pounds with me in it lol.

Because you put a lot of hp to a plastic toy car.

Agreed!

Stage II = best for the $...

After that, it's a money pit to do things properly.

The single best improvement is suspension related: swaybars, tires, alignment, and then coilovers. Do this first before upgrading the turbo! The car will feel a billion times better than the stock/death trap suspension setup.

Don't forget to budget for proper maint.... the 06-07 brakes may be nicer looking, plan on new rotors/pads every 2 years atleast...

From my experience, once I went to a larger turbo, mine just eats clutches.... once a year... brakes once a year... tires once a year.... 342hp/345tq on a 20g with zero trans issues over the 45k miles I've had the larger turbo, and 77k on the car....Clutches are cheaper than transmissions, but it's a constant reminder that if you have road rage like me, it'll add up $$$... but just remember to budget for all the maint crap...

Also you'll prob want a proper HID retro fit... and other cosmetic stuff... = more $$

If I could do it all over, I would have just bought the sti, kept it stage II

guys! After searching for a long time of period, I just bought my 07 WRX 2.5 US specs with 10 000 original miles from its first owner who bought it back in 2007 from the US. Dont start your comments about the hood scoop, mirrors and the wrx wing color! pink because it was owned by a 40 years old lady and driven on weekends! i will paint them mettalic grey like the rest of the car at the earliest eventhough the hood scoop looks good in this color :P
