I seriously doubt that the 2012 Impreza will be much different from the current line. There's no need for it, since sales have been solid AFAIK. Any move to the Impreza Concept would likely wait for the end of the 5 year model cycle, which would be next year.

The 2008 WRX sucks

Just kidding, it's not bad; it just wasn't an improvement over the 06-07 WRX.

Subaru is a global player and since the GR Impreza is only selling reasonably well in the USA, they've pulled it's replacement ahead.

Ford's been refreshing their vehicles more rapidly lately to avoid waiting for the sales to slump and it's been pretty successful for them so far.

On the face I would agree....however,
Subaru has always been tight lipped on future product. That being the case, any rumor like this sounds like it might be true.

And, while Impreza sales have been good, they've been down in other markets (europe) where the Impreza is by far the #1 seller.

I thought that it was already confirmed that Subaru was going to show the production version at the NY show in April, and that it would be released for sale in August. Why would they show a production version in April if it wasn't going to come out for another year?

Incorrect, sales are down on the Impreza from the last couple years, and the 2012 redesign is THIS year not next year.

My post was pure conjecture, so if you have real information, I'll concede my ignorance. I look forward to seeing it.

I would assume the 2012 model year (which comes out in 2011) will be the redesign. I don't have any info, but since the concept is getting some attention, I would think it would be for the 2012 model year and go on sale this summer.

Well the mere fact that you've once again become active on this web site is a pretty good indication that something is brewing for NY. Don't want to see anything slip out ahead of time, now do we?

I'm 6'3" so I don't find anything excessive about the Impreza headroom either. I was ecstatic when I found out that an '11 with a moonroof actually had more headroom in it than my '02 without one. I was worried I wouldn't be able to wear a helmet in it.

Well if staffing is up, then I would hope to see an increased SOA Blog presence here at NASIOC year-round, and not just before shows where major product debuts are expected.

I picked up some parts at the local dealer yesterday and had a chat with the salesman. He confirmed an all-new Impreza will be available in Europe this summer, with FB20 engine and much improved fuel consumption (10-15%) making it the most economical 4WD compact saloon on the European market. Available with 6MT or CVT.

I am glad that your dealership knows more than mine since the one here is not priveladged to this I formation. I really have reservations when dealerships tell me news that Subaru hasn't officially released. That's is just my two cents.

I would usually agree, but I've seen instances where details were released before any sort of official press release. I remember people vaguely hinting at a widebody for the 2011 WRXs when they weren't released or on sale yet.

It may not be official, but it is somewhat consistent with what is expected, and logical for Subaru to do.

Odds on the 6MT being the version from the 2010 Legacy GT, not the more robust unit from the STI.

Maybe that's because Honda dealers are not as well informed about future Subaru products as the dealers selling those products in the near future

Dealers aren't kept informed about this stuff, but the information is there if they look for it.
