do you have these amped?
swap RCAs and see what happens check the poloarity of the wires as well, it might be out of phase check the speaker wire, make sure it is not shorting out against something make sure it is not pinches |

just to add to the list of things to check.. if they're amped, try switching the L and R channels. maybe one channel on your amp is causing the distortion.

Thanks for the suggestions. at this time they are running of my hu. I went out side just after i posted this and tried to see what could be the problem. i hooked the speakers back up and the problem is gone. I do not know what happened, but all is well. I guess it will stay as a mystery to what the problem was.

probably just a loose connection most likely at the speaker terminals. have you ever hooked up a set of speakers while the source unit is playing? if you just touch one or two strands of the wire on the terminal, it can sound broken up. when i wrapped the other strands around the terminals, sounded crystal clear.
i actually don't recommend doing this, but i did it on cheapo speakers once. you can short out your source unit very easily if you're not careful. |

Hey garretwp,
I just installed some front speakers as well and had some wierd distortion in both. I figured out that the door panels were acutually resting against part of the speakers, so I assume the woofers were slightly vibrating against the panels. Anyway, I took the panels back off and glued two pieces of styrofoam (i.e., one for each side) at the points I thought they were hitting. I had to make sure that the styrofoam stuck out further than the speakers so that the door panels would hit it (the styrofoam) first. Maybe I'm lucky, but that took care of it. Hope I helped. Good luck. |
