Aside from what we discussed in the pm, not sure what else to tell.
I don't know much about the tc.com turbos aside from they're cheaper than their competitors and it seems those who've bought them have been happy with their performance. I have yet to make a decision on deadbolt turbos or not. Many swear by them and many swear never to buy them.. I can tell you that any performance differences and the reliability between the two will probably be minimal and you should purchase based on brand preference and your comfort in the decision. |

wow, it just shows you how much i visit this forum... this is the first i've seen the thread!
just a minor point... on the vf23 section it states that it spools "significantly faster" than its big brother, the vf22. i would rephrase that to read "slightly faster." basically from what i've seen on other vf22 datalogs, they're spooling only the tiniest bit slower than mine. like 50-100rpms. as a bit of additional info, it was fitted standard on the 22b, but the vf22 could be added as a no-cost factory option. |

also I may be wrong but I think the VF39 doesn't have the P15 housing, I have heard P17 and I think deadbolt said he has seen them with P18s

well there are a whole lot of things necessary for bolting a turbo designed for a wrx on an rs. Namely turbo crossmember, exhaust manifolds, uppipe, downpipe, i/c setup just to physically make it attach assuming the n/a 2.5 (253??) has the same exhaust port configuration as the 205 or 257. Fuel, EM, ect are also required to make it run well.

You could make just about any turbo work with some custom fabbing and patience. If you are using wrx parts to turbo your rs you'd probably want to stick to the bolt-on turbos available.

what do you mean a "bolt on turbo"? do you mean like the main turbos are primarily made for the wrx so the "bolt on" ones are better made for the rs? |

he means turbos that bolt onto the stock WRX uppipe and downpipe flanges with the proper for stock WRX clocking orienation. There is no "bolt-on" turbos for the RS - there are bolt on "kits" that you can buy or source out of WRX/STi parts

That's correct. If you look through the list, the turbos either say "bolt-on" or "kit," etc. next to them.

Great write up
This is the standard equipment turbocharger used on the JDM Subaru Impreza WRX. The VF35 is similar to the VF34. It utilizes the same compressor housing and the same compressor inducer size. The differences are in the divided thrust-bearing design and the P15 exhaust housing. This allows the VF35 to spool slightly quicker than the VF34 at the cost of less top-end performance. Expect to achieve full boost with the proper mods and a quality tune between 2800-3300rpms. 2002-2005 WRX owners will need fuel upgrades for this turbocharger and proper engine management is highly recommended for all vehicles. |

Would I be right in thinking that most of these turbos would come on boost a hint faster on a 2.5 liter motor? Looks like most of the numbers are based on 2.0 WRX type action.

Dude! What the heck is this? I thought I had my turbo choice narrowed down to 2 possibly 3 turbos. Now I'm all messed up. Excellent info and thank you for taking the time to write this.
