Post Sick of alarm making you deaf after ECU reset?

A trick I figured out the last time I had my battery disconnected:

When you're ready to reconnect the battery:
1. Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "on" position.
2. Connect the battery
3. Take the key out
4. Tighten the bolt on the battery connection.

This keeps the alarm from going off when the battery gets reconnected. (At least it does on my alarm system, and I'm not sure if my alarm is OEM or aftermarket because I bought the car used)

OK, so who here has already tried the MRT method and actually gotten results?? Do you have to remove panels or anything to get to the plugs??

Actually, I had the battery disconnected because I was swapping my bumper beam and bumper, and didn't want the airbags going kablooee while I did it.

But I might as well ask: what makes that way the right way?

Err. Couldnt you just set the alarm to valet mode before you disconnect the battery?

OK not sure what kinda alarm you guys are using. But all I have to do before disconnecting the battery is to either set the thing to valet mode or dissarm the alarm. Never had it wail on me upon reconnecting the battery.

It freaks out unless I follow the steps above. Yes, I've disarmed it first; yes, I've put it in valet mode first. No, it doesn't make any difference. Maybe I should roll my eyes at you guys with alarms that don't care if someone is messing w/ your battery?

Well, it's the right way for a few reasons.

1) You aren't disconnecting your battery and setting off your alarm/losing your radio presets/clock settings/any other electrical pre-sets.

2) When you do the battery method, you're pretty much playing a crap shoot that you've left the battery disconnected long enough to discharge the caps that are designed specifically to avoid an ECU reset when the power is disconnected temporarily. Personally I'd rather do it in a way where I get positive feedback that the reset has been successfu.

Really simple solution...

Stuff a few paper towels in the horn for the alarm before you reconnect the ECU. It will quiet it down or even just shut it up sometimes.
