Questions on 6mt swap into 02 wrx
I am ordering a 6 speed sti tranny with dccd and had a few questions about the swap into my 02 wrx. It comes with the axel stups in the tranny, do i really need new axels? Also will this tranny work with my stock wrx rear diff? And most importantly, the driveshaft i was told i need is one out of an 05 auto wrx, are the auto outback driveshafts the same, and are there any diffrences in the driveshaft between bugeye imprezes, new imprezes and outbacks? Thanks for the help, im trying to save as much money as i can... 700 bucks for an auto driveshaft from the dealer**** and 700 for axels, if i dont need one or can find a used one for 50 bucks... yeah right lol. Thanks for the help!

I called my local subaru dealership and they said they are the same part number for the auto driveshaft from late 02-05, now are they any diffrent from an auto outback?

You need an automatic driveshaft or an sti driveshaft. With the sti driveshaft minor modification needs to be done to the holes where it bolts to the rear diff.
As for a rear, you need a 3.90 ring and pinion assembled into your r160 which will run you about $400-500 total. The axles are a must, for the front anyways. You need those to bolt them into the tranny. If not some people change the femal connetors etc to make them work. Don't forget 6mt shift linkage, boot, slave cylinder, tob etc. I just did the swap and I love it, good luck and listen to these other guys. READ READ READ that 6mt tranny thread, it will help you out in the long run! |

oh and btw, that dccd unit will not work on your car. You need the sti ecu for that which would require having the motor too. Neetronics makes a compatable dccd as well as a member of nasioc named Spiider.

holy crap... this guy is a frickin 6 speed swap allstar now. wonder where he learned that stuff...
all of the above is true except you dont necessarily need the front axles, if you have an 04 6 speed and it has male axle stubs then they will work with your stock wrx axles. good job d... i'm impressed. |

If you could show me where in the tranny FAQ it says if wrx driveshafts are the same as outback driveshats that would be great. Also I dont need to do the3.90 ring and pinion swap because the tranny comes with a 1.1:1 center diff. Now I guess i will just go and compare part numbers.

oh ok, so you think you don't need a 3.90 R & P? Good luck with that.
04-05 sti tranny? or 06 sti tranny? Big difference... |
