04 JDM sti 6MT swap into 06 wrx
Im about to purchause this and the seller is sayin I dont need rear axles. I thought you needed rear axles, hubs and etc... if you swaped to a R 180??? Is this because its JDM? Seller says the kit comes with...Tranny, diff, front axles, shift fork, driveshaft and shift linkage all from a JDM 04 STI.

Find out what the center diff ratio is, that will answer your question. Did you read this thread? http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1201152
I can't remember what the rear diff is on the 04 WRX's but I think it's still 3.54, so if the tranny he's selling you hasn't had the center diff change, I'd say it won't work ... you can also swap in a r&p in to you current diff, but it won't be a nice as the 180. |

If he says it comes with a R160 rear diff, and says you don't need axles... that means that the R160 is a 3.900FD. You should ask him if the R160 he's providing is a 3.900FD.
It's that simple.... |

He swapped in the correct ratio to a R160.
Its not as strong as a R180, but it will work fine, and you don't have to swap rear axles and hubs. |

Sweet! Does $3200 sound like a good price? And I have to pay shipping of 6 to 800....

The price doesn't seem too bad, but it's hard to say without knowing how many miles ... that price for 100,000 miles would kid of suck. 6MT's are strong, but abuse can still hurt the syncros. |

More importantly you buy it base on what your driving application is. I have a JDM 6spd because I do tracking/lapping runs. I love the short gearing, keeps me in the powerband all the time. If I was doing dragging and straightline stuff, a PPG set would be just fine.
I have driven 6spd, and PPG, and stock of a few trannies; FWD, 5spd AWD, WRX, FXT,... |

I would probably go LGT gears if I had to replace a 5-speed now. They can hold what power I would need.

Also consider that with the 6 speed you get the front diff upgrade too, as well as the DCCD option (if that JDM has it that is). That's going to affect the general handling and should also be considered with the fun to drive factor. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but the front LSD is quite a bit better than on the WRX no? .. But for Drag racing ... I guess that wouldn't matter. |

I'm unsure about the front. When it gets there, you'll find out. The ONLY WAY is try to put your front axles into the tranny. It's THAT simple... you have the parts, try to fit them!!!!
Same with the rear. So don't just sit there and ponder. |

The backs will fit since you kept the R160.
I don't know if the fronts fit on an 06. |
