Just wanted to say thanks to Ben for his guide and his help with my making of the flip key, really appreciate it! Also a quick tip for everyone trying to get a key cut.. if you're going to go the dealership way, don't let them tell you it's 100$ or some absurd price. I called and asked, the guy said 65$ and 24 hours to cut it, I laughed and hung up. I called again, talked to someone else and they said just bring it down with the normal blade that you want it cut to and it will cost 20$ and about 5 minutes. It's very easy for them to do! Anyways, pictures! (:

Damn! I want to do this but it seems a little complicated to DIY. And does the keyless entry an all that **** still work?

Keys are looking great!
If you don't modify the blade yourself it's quite easy. Just some assembly. Yes, the remote does still work. If you have other questions, feel free to e-mail me. |

Be smart and program the remote AFTER assembly (or at least away from your car). I set off panic mode at least twice lol.

Same here. Couldn't hear it from the basement. The range on this thing is amazing.

Haha. Never thought of that, but good point. The only reason I would say to program it first is to confirm your remote the correct part and functioning properly.

Send me an e-mail if you have questions on how to get the parts. I'm helping people get them as much as I can.

Is there typically a fair amount of movement ie "wiggle" of the key with respect to the shell? I have mine together but I'm a little disappointed with the amount of key movement.

There is a bit of wiggle. It's just a plastic shell sandwiching a metal pivot mechanism. No bearings or anything. It seems to bother some people more than others. I never even noticed it until someone pointed it out to me. Just make sure it's not the blade moving in the pivot mechanism, because if that's the case then the roll pin probably isn't holding it securely.

Yeah, that's just how it is. Sorry if it's a little loose for your liking. It has to be a bit loose to pivot freely.

I have a few friends with Volkswagen flip keys, and theirs are like that from the factory too, it's not just Xluben's cases. Over time parts will loosen up and cause this to happen regardless too. |

I accidentally dropped my keys and the emblem came off. I stuck it back on but only time will tell when it pops off again!

That's unfortunate.
Mine has been on for over 6 months. It even fell in the snow on the side of the road and I didn't find it until the next day. And it's still on there perfectly. Yours may have no been seated fully. Unfortunately now that's it's fallen off once, it probably won't be stuck on as well. |

I may get some thin double sided tape or something to try to remedy it. If it comes off and I lose it, then oh well

A dab of superglue should hold it on.

I've been pushing on it every time I grab the key. The next time it comes off I'll probably do the super glue.
I was debating taking this Transformers Autobot emblem and JB welding it to the case haha. But I don't want to block the screws. |

You know the dark grey 3m double sided tape with the red backing? I used a piece of that, and just stretched it a little to make it thinner. Badge sticks on just fine, much better than with the thin clear kind of 3m double sided tape.
Hopefully you didn't throw away the original legacy key casing, it's good to have a back up badge handy lol |
