Default Got Oil Analysis Back

I just got my oil report back from blackstone labs:

The fuel % is over 2x normal, their comments say "could indicate a fuel system problem". What's a common cause for this?

Copper is also high, which indicates wear at a turbo bearing or bushing.

It's Rotella T6.

All the o2 sensors are under a year old, but I do take lots of short trips, mostly under 5 miles to the train station for work.

This may sound crazy but every week take that car out for a long fun highway ride and burn some of that fuel out of the oil.

It's not like I don't drive it. I put probably 100 miles a week on it, and I go on the interstate every 1-2 weeks.

Wow, that Rotella is shot from the fuel! Did you take the sample or someone else? I don't think that I have ever seen a Blackstone fuel % that high and my trips are 7 miles each way.

Was the car fully warmed up? Did you do some WOT runs before taking the sample? If you want to really get to the root of the problem, and want a more accurate fuel reading, you'll need to spend more than $30 on a uoa.

Yeah, I took at on my last oil change. The car was warmed up, I drove the to parts store to get the oil filter, and I took the sample in the middle of the drain. I didn't really do any WOT, but the car was warmed up, so I figured it was fine.

Are you sure the O2 sensors were replaced? Are you stock? What fuel have you been using?

You can find various reasons for high fuel with a google search (all mentioned above). The copper is probably from the oil cooler but it's not that bad.

Yes, I did them myself when I replaced the exhaust components.

Nope, stage 2 tuned.

91-93 octane, depending on where I get gas. Are you asking the specific brand?

Fuel brand shouldn't really matter. Who's stage 2 tune? Some tunes and OTS maps are really rich to be safe. Not good for short trips (or long ones for that matter).

Could be a leaky injector too, but that will usually throw a CEL.

That's some serious fuel dilution, like worse than a Gen I direct injected VW 2.0T.

This is what you want your uoa's to look like. The fuel is dialed in so well that even the Subaru synthetic stayed in grade. The last two uoa's are on RT6. I wouldn't go past 3k on the oil until you've seen that the fuel is normal.

I don't know Matt Cater, he's probably a great tuner, but you're close enough that you might consider pinging Jorge Carillo at P&L in Chicago on the matter.

OP, I should add that I do far more short trips than I let on in those UOAs^^. I drive 6 miles to work and frequently go home at lunch. So that's 6 short trips per day, or more. The long highway trips on the weekends really help with fuel dilution, as others have mentioned. Though in your case it looks like your tuner needs to spend some time on fueling.

Don't be stupid.

It's entirely possible (and probable) that the car needs fixing. It seems excessive that some short trips (I do more than just drive a few miles per day on it, like I said) would end up with DOUBLE the average fuel %.

Why is your magnesium so high?

Edit: My UOA of T6 also showed high readings similar to yours. NVM

They didn't mention that in the comments. Apart from copper, they said everything in metals was fine.

Yup, T6 uses lots of magnesium as a detergent/dispersant additive.
