Default New Kia Rio revealed

Quote:
The next-stage in the transformation of Kia’s range will be the launch of a new Rio supermini at next month’s Geneva motor show, a car much-needed to capture sales in the UK’s biggest market-segment.
Based on the same group platform as the Hyundai i20, the Rio is clothed in striking sheetmetal said to be the work of Kia’s European studio under design chief Peter Schreyer.

See the official pics of the new Kia Rio
Characterised by dominant headlamps, aggressive lower air vents and new ‘pinched’ treatment of the corporate grille, the Rio grows in the important dimensions of length, width and wheelbase, which boost interior space and on-road stability, while the roofline is slightly lower to improve the styling.
Inside is a new quality interior, designed in the company’s west coast US studio.

The full engine line-up will be revealed at Geneva, although it’s sure to feature engines new to the Rio since the current engine line-up isn’t EU5 compliant.

It’s likely to centre on new group 1.4 and 1.6 petrol and diesels, also shared with Hyundai, and mated to five- and six-speed manual transmissions or a five-speed auto.

Also tipped for the Rio are a new 68bhp 1.1-litre four-cylinder diesel and a 1.2-litre soft-turbo petrol with direction injection.

At launch in September the five-door hatch will be the sole body variant; the three-door follows in December. The Rio three-door is also likely to be the launch model for Kia’s first-ever warm hatch, rumoured to arrive in mid-2012.

360 meaning they're just following the same direction they were headed before?

I'm assuming you meant 180 and they have completely changed directions. I also agree. This redesign is pretty gosh darn good.

Umm that looks like a marriage of a Focus, Golf, and Seat Leon Cupra.

Not in terms of looks, but in terms of business and the segment yeah. Kia and Hyundai turned up the heat at the same time. Kia is a thing of their own really. They snuck in and took the segment while Hyundai moved up and stole Honda's seat while they were taking a nap. You can't throw a rock without hitting a new Sonata

I think Kia/Hyundai has a great and very complete line-up, or will by 2013.

The front grille really isn't working for me, otherwise it looks nice.

It will probably come with 140 hp from the new 1.6 DI motor that's also used in the new Accent/Veloster

the Koreans are kicking ass and taking names, but call it ego or whatever, I still wouldn't be caught dead driving either name plate. Either brand just isn't there yet. Hyundai is getting close thought.

Wow, what an improvement in looks... the current Rio is awful.

I'd like to see US specs/ price.

A Golf and Fiesta had sex...

I drove an Elantra and a Sonata the other day. Anyone would be a fool not to consider Hyundai/Kia when buying their next car.

After test driving the Sonata, I don't care if that car was made by Nabisco, I'd drive it happily.

I hope they've improved the safety. The last Rio had awful driver fatality rates. See my "I drove a suv because I feel safer" thread for the actual number and context.
