Driving the mini?

I have a friend that just bought an AWD MazdaSpeed6 that probably would like to join

I'll re-do the map with the staging area built in later tonight. It would be the Tetco @ 71 & 620.

I have a really fun back road route I could show the DFW group on the way down Sat morning
I would never discriminate. All are welcome as far as I'm concerned. I'll go ahead and put you down as attending, DEVO330.

Also - thats rexassian's awesome route

rule #3 is critical

Also, I'll add that you need to give the car in front more space. They may brake differently than you want or react to something in the road. Conversely, if you see someone behind you wanting to spoon cars, get out of the way and let them pass, you'll both have more fun that way.

Word to that. My crappy O'reilly pads/greasy Khumo's leave a lot to be desired.

Granny shiftin’, not double clutchin’ like you should. You’re lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn’t blow the welds on your intake.

Question OT: WTF Double Clutch?

I will bare my shame and say I still do not understand double clutching. I've read that with transmissions of old you would need to do it so you didn't turn the gearbox into a container full of assorted size metal chunks, and that modern semi tractors-trailer drivers use the technique due to the complexity of the gearings on their trucks. But why use the technique in today's manual transmission cars?

How is it any better/faster than just holding the clutch in:
push clutch down » shift to neutral » let clutch out » push clutch down » shift into gear » let clutch out
vs.
push clutch in » shift » let clutch out

Why?
Do you need a short shifter to experience a gain?
Is it something you'd only do in a purpose built rally/race car?

Maybe if I didn't have to press my clutch into the next timezone when shifting it'd make more sense.

Nope, but the clutch pedal travel in my STI feels ridiculously long. But I've only had my car for a week and I definitely don't have the feel of it yet.

In light of events that happened last cruise, I'd like to do a safety brief and run down on what to do if we have an accident at Rudy's. I know some people won't take it seriously, but as someone that's been down that road a few times, I'd feel better at least making it known ... especially with a bigger number of cars.

I plan on bringing the majority of my medic bag with me this time also. Just in case.

It looks like I might be one of the leaders this time. Mind sending me a PM filling me in on what went down. I will happily help brief too. I will bring along my IFAKs.

Updated. I went and drove the route this weekend and it looks great. No major closures, road damage, etc.

Weather-permitting (and thats a lot for us Subaru owners), this is going to be a great cruise.

Awesome! Glad you had the time to do this. I recommend it as well to anybody leading any of the sub-groups to do the same.
