Customcargrills.com sells white a bit of different stuff.
I know the guy and am always trying to promote business for him. Once I copy your idea I'll be having him work on one with me.

So you removed the upper, shiny plastic part of the grill (and the Subaru stars logo and replaced the mesh, is that right? Do you have a more detailed description of the work?

I like the loss of the shiny plastic upper grill piece, I've been considering painting or plasti-dipping mine.

The mesh is a good idea, but I agree with you that you need something that looks/is better quality.

I really like the lights, and yes, definitely mustang-style. I saw a set of those get smaller and smaller in my rear-view driving home from work the other day.

That's actually all there is to it: cut off the mustache and you're left with what I have + a gap on each side, fill it in with bondo, sand, plastidip and voila. I'd like some OEM style mesh to let more light through the grill, though I'm only interested in sub $10 solutions from hardware stores. Any leads?

I don't know if you'll be able to find anything for less than $10 that doesn't look like you lifted it from a chicken coop.

Looking at this one:
http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?...llow&cId=PDIO1
I want it to be as thin/open as possible to let the most amount of light out.

I see no pic.

People painting stuff isn't unique, making a custom grill is.

Unique =/= good idea. See how I have my hellas mounted? That's a retarded idea as soon as we get snow. Gotta find some better mounting points that won't be under the cover.

That is true. Did you mount the horns down there because you used the normal spot for the lights? You could mount a 2nd, wider bracket behind the light setup for the horns. Just an idea, I'll be watching for more.

Thank you for the compliments gents.

Greg, that's correct, I'm using the hood latch bolt and the original horn bolt to attach the corner braces for my mount. There isn't room for the Hellas anymore, at least at that location.

I'm looking into mounting the hellas off the radiator support bolts at the moment, trying to get the angle correct. The problem with the Hella 500's is that they're freakin' huge, so I don't have exactly a lot of grill space to work with. Not to mention I'm a bit iffy about blocking off TOO much airflow. The added "coverage" of the lights is offset by the more free flowing grill since I took off the mustache, but if I add the horns back in the upper grill area, I'd be blocking maybe 80%+ of the air?

Can you tell that I've been behind the bumper a few times? See what you mean about the airflow, so, yeah, bad idea. Could always mount them right behind the skin, wouldn't block any more airflow, and they wouldn't be out in the elements. Then again, from experience, I can say my horns were nasty as hell after just a little time driving in snow (en route from D.C. to Minneapolis to El Paso). Can't say how much the bumper cover would decrease the sound of the horns though.....

Not too worried about decreasing the sound of the horns, it's just kinda irritating to have the 117 DB's reflected back at ME lol. I got them to alert the OTHER crappy drivers on the road

I was contemplating suggesting drilling some outlet holes too, but I haven't found too many people willing to do the crazy stuff like I do.... Then again, I'm already missing most of my bumper cover, so, hey?! Whatcha gonna do?!

Replace oem fog lights with Hellas.
Just an idea. Or you could make a grill for your lower bumper and just leave them there. Not sure how much the grill would save them from the elements.

Easy gents, let's play nice here. We're all grown ass adults, yeah?

I've found two bolts on the mid section of the radiator support. If I twist the mounting flat bar for the hella horns, I can get them to stay within the bumper cover but angled upwards such that the sound projects to the outside, instead of inside.

I'm a big fan of those lower grill meshes, but to be honest, it's REALLY easy to work on the stuff between the bumper and the radiator when I can access them from that gap. Hell, back when I only had hella horns, I installed them without ever taking off the bumper/grill thanks to that.

I'm retarded to not even think of that, as I will be installing Hellas soon. But I figured this will give me the opportunity to change my mesh grill up top and add one to the bottom.
