i just looked as how my GM solenoid is installed and its a bit different from what this threads says....

here it shows this:

Port 1: To turbocharger, or optionally another line on the charge air side.
Port 2: To wastegate
Port 3: Back into intake, after the MAF.

and mine is installed as this

Port 1: To wastegate
Port 2: To turbocharger, or optionally another line on the charge air side.
Port 3: Back into intake, after the MAF.

you see port 1 and 2 are switched....is there any problem/ difference????

thanks

Check your Wastegate Duty cycles in your Data Logging Program and if it is hooked up backwards you will know it right away. (ie 0% Duty Cycle)

The boost will be controlled by the throttle and will build uncontrolled as the Wastegate will never open.

No a stupid questions lol. Yes if your seeing Wastegate duty you should be ok. What are your boost levels at WOT in 3rd gear. Are you hitting your target boost for your custom Map?

a duty cycle of 0% would mean it opens at the spring pressure, not that it stays shut. the higher the duty cycle, the harder its trying to stay shut.

but 94.6% is really high, see what happens when you switch ports 2 and 3, it should drop dramatically.

oh im sorry, switch 1 and 2, whichever were mixed up. you cant reach target boost because your solenoid is pretty much maxing out trying to keep it shut, but it cant. thats what the 94.6% means.

HI People!
Recently I installed a Profec B spec 2 on my Sti, but i didn't how to tune it. It seems that is not spooling enough in both low and high. I don't know if a missed something in the installation. My parameters are

low
set 30%
gain 12%
set gain 10psi

high
set 42%
gain 15%
set gain 14psi.

However, it did not reach more than 10 in low. The car started to pullback and push and my blow off started to go on and off. I dont' know is it for the fuel cut defenser or my blow off is leaking. Can anybody help me on this?

Everything was ok before it. There is a couple of question when I installed the profec. I cap off the stock solenoid but i kept connected to avoid the CEL turn on. I don't know it is affect something.

This is a great write up, but I have a question (or two)...

I noticed some people specifically mentioning 2004 models; is there something different about them regarding the boost solenoid? I am getting a stage 2 protune using a V1 Accessport (for my 2004 STi) in a couple weeks and my buddy said to get a GM boost solenoid and install it right before the tune. Is this a worthwhile mod (my only power mods are catless TBE and the Accessport)?

Thanks in advance...
Alex

I guess I'd ask whomever is tuning the car whether they want you to put the new solenoid on or not. If they're ok tuning for it, do it. You might get some minor gains on boost threshold down low, maybe slightly less lag. It's not huge on a stock turbo, but it is also a really cheap mod.

I am still researching the issue of "lazy boost" in my car

22psi @ 4000, that's with a vf36 twinscroll!
I have prodrive solenoid in, along with stronger actuator and I had to RAISE WG duties to hit targeted boost

nobody has an answer for that one, so I will move on to next question

COBB site seems to contradict itself, while showing this diagram

it then says:

Quote:
3-Port EBCS Internal Wastegate Set-up, Interrupt-type

For the mechanical set-up you will need one vacuum line plumbed from the turbo compressor housing (pressure source) to the pressure inlet port. If you blow through this port you should notice that air is coming out of one of the other two ports . Attach a 2nd vacuum line from the port which air comes out to the intake system, prior to the compressor inlet and after the air filter. A 3rd vacuum line should be connected from the 3rd port of the solenoid to the wastegate actuator. This set-up uses a 3-port electronic boost control solenoid valve to interrupt the air stream to the wastegate actuator. This set-up usually does not employ a restrictor pill which is located in the vacuum line just between the compressor housing and the solenoid valve, although a restrictor pill can be used here to help increase minimum WG pressure.

So following the above, I would have to connect the WG to where the intake port (as per the diagram above)

So which way is correct for interrupt?

I did a test (all ports below are as per the diagram above)

car off - blow through WG port, air comes out of compressor port
car on (just on, but not running) - blow through WG port, air comes out of compressor port! :???: Isn't it supposed to switch?
Checked voltage, the solenoid is getting 12v on BOTH wires with the car ON (but not running)

Can someone shine some light over this?

None of what you posted is wrong. Yes, you see 12v on both solenoid terminals. It is ground switched, so you see 12v on both sides unless the solenoid is actually actively being used. (Even then, it is PWM and it will be hard to gauge its activity with a volt meter.) And thus, the air passage is not changed. Put the volt meter down, you don't need it.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do with your tests. None of them tell you what you need to know. I explained in the first post how to identify the ports. Hook up the solenoid to the battery so it gets 12v and ground directly for testing. Look at post #1 so you can test the ports by blowing through them either hooked up to the battery (energized), or unhooked (at rest).

The Cobb stuff you posted is for a different solenoid than yours. Either way, post #1 explains how to identify the ports on any brand 3 port solenoid.

I have a question.. i have a FP18g and the vacuum nipples on the turbo are larger then the stock ones and i'm trying to install the gm bcs. should i use a bigger hose and then use a reducer to use the smaller hoses? i also have the utec ABC, should i take that off when i install this? i have a utec for EM.

test good! I have a STG1 Vishnu setup. It runs 18psi in 3rd gear at WOT. Boost comes on later in the RPM range. Would adding a a GM BCS help with this setup?

you will need a retune for it work right

Quick word on tuning:
This will make your current boost map OBSOLETE. You must retune boost. If you have no way to tune your boost map, you should NOT do this mod

This mod is freakin A awesome! Boost builds much more quickly and will go much higher than the stocker will allow.

I reduced WGDC by 30%. That wasn't enough. I still got spikes >2psi above the set point. I'll lower them a bit more before taking my next set of logs. I'm also lowering the values of the Turbo Dynamics Continuous table a bit.

Regarding the noise. I can't hear it. I mounted it using the stock rubber grommet. I ground out the hole in the GM part to accept the grommet and it works fine that way. No clicking whatsoever. Here are a couple of pics...

Thanks Freon! You rock!

I didn't use the grommet, and I hear NO clicking ever. It does build boost sooner and more quickly and hold it closer to redline.

I'm going to do this soon. Stage two car right now with custom map running 18psi tapering to 12psi, I pretty much have it set to die after 6k.

Getting the ebay front mount kit this week and going to buy the gm solinoid and put it all on the same time. I might just try the ots cobb stage 2 map and see where it goes, lol, I'm looking to run 20 psi till 5500 then cut it to 14 after that. Just curious to see how high it is going to go with the ots map, don't worry, I won't blow the car up. If it hits 20psi i'm letting out of it.

I guess it's time to get the wideband out and have some fun this weekend

Thanks for the write up OP. T taps FTW

If you only use the Cobb OTS map with the GM BCS and FMIC, you're gonna blow something up. I've never heard of a Cobb OTA map for GM BCS, so be prepared to tune the WG duty cycles and other things for the FMIC.

I'm prepared to make all nessesary adjustments to anything that is going to need adjusted after the install of these parts.

I'm sure the fuel maps will need work, boost mapping will need redone and some other things will need to be changed. I'm prepared to do this stuff.

I know the OTS map isn't going to work, but it's where i'm starting out.
