Glad to hear you are happy with your decision. I will check back in a few more months to see how you like the winter But I am sure it can't be to much of a difference coming from the bay area though.

We have until May to figure it out but we are planning a trip up there to check everything out possibly after the holidays. If we can handle it in the middle of winter then we should be good to go. haha

Yeah it gets a bit more rain fall but the bay still is cloudy and dreary during winter. Most the time here its just drizzle (from what I hear). A trip up here will make your decision easy, during our trial visit the friendly people (a lot friendlier than most of Californians), beer, and smoother roads sold us haha.

Seattle is really nice, I've been there once long ago and my wife went up there the week after we moved to visit her home office. We plan on making some trips this winter and visiting some breweries.

**Plus, the Subaru scene is pretty big up here. I see mod'd Subaru's every day. Most drivers are cool, some arent.

Now that a few more months have gone by how is everything?

We are coming up this week to check everything out and see how we like it. Unfortunately it's going to be nice the whole time we are there and only rain once. We were hoping to get a lot of rain on our trip to make sure it was something we can handle. Either way it will be nice to check out the area.

We're still loving it! Dont regret it a single day! Always discovering new places and new restaurants. Of course its been dry and freaking cold so we havent experienced a "typical Portland" winter but its still pretty different. Again though we love the rain and cant wait for it to come and bring the temp up a few degrees. My co-worker is pretty much my outdoorsy tour guide and he's lived here for 8+ years and he said he's still finding new campgrounds and places to visit.

We've actually recruited most of our family up here also, selling their half decent houses for close to a million and buying something 10x's nicer for half as much! Plus free baby sitters! Haha. I know this is why Oregonions hate Californians.

My only complaint, all the bandwagon Seattle Seahawks fans! Go 49ers!

No rain the whole time I was there - Very nice and deceiving.

I glad you still enjoy it and have no regrets - we still have a lot of thinking to do before we decide to make any moves.

Hey but if you know anyone who needs help with a home loan I would be more than happy to help them out. We have an office up there which was one of the main reason for us to look in the area. I was loving the housing market, like you said pay less than half for twice as much up there for what you get. I was actually thinking we could buy a house we wouldn't have to "settle" on and it be exactly what we wanted

No one likes the 40 whiners up here. Lol. Portland is a fun city. Little too liberal for my liking, but yes, the food! Try out the canyon grill. Best burgers ever.

Welcome! As far as modding your sweet car you could probably get away with a lot here if you have good tags already. I personally registered my car in bend where there is no DEQ so I didn't do smog. My motor was still being built there when I bought the car so I chose to straight pipe it and go stage 2 at the same time. You won't have cops pulling you over cause your car doesn't look stock or if it sounds straight piped or saying anything about it if you get pulled over for other reasons from my experience.

Check out the Portland Winterhawks. They're a WHL team that plays in the Moda Center and Veteran's Memorial. We too are hockey-fan transplants from CA, Los Angeles to be specific though.

I recommend NBC Sports Network on TV and a 6-pack of Winterhawks tickets.

EDIT: just realized this thread is 2 years old
